Rizoma grips problem

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Stebinners, Jul 9, 2012.

  1. Good idea I will, does it cut through ok as usually they only go through copper and thinner, assume it just takes time

  2. Yup, as I said I use them on stainless steel instrument tube with a wall thickness of upto 2mm.

Scaffolders cut scaffold tube with a bigger version of the same thing.....so I can't imagine you'd have trouble.

  3. Why would any sane person cut the bars down? It begs belief that peoiple would do this. FFS, just cut the daft little nipples off

  4. But by removing the nipples do the controls stills clamp down hard enough? Is it not dangerous ie. can they slip?

  5. Cut the bars

  6. True it's only 1 cm to be replace with bar ends! Right off to b and q for a pipe cutter

  7. Looking at the other picture i think i would wait till I got the right bar weights . They may well fit over the top of the bit you are about to cut off. I use these with my own bar end weights made by myself. you may be able to just about see them here.

  8. I don't intend to do anything until everything arrives!

  9. Should we start a pole on this one. Those in favour of the cut those for ebay. Put me down for ebay.

    Regards Steve

  10. Hmmm....call me suspicious, but

I kinda get the feeling you may just have a vested interest in a second hand...one careful owner.....like new pair of Rizoma grips!

Either that or popelli has put you up to it

  11. I am keeping them I like them! Think they look lovely.

  12. You are quite correct

  13. Buy some rizoma bars, drill hole in required position, then you will always have the originals if you change your mind and want to go back as Ducati intended ;)

  14. more comfortable that the originals as well

  15. That was a completly unbiassed vote. Tried them at the dealers one day and realised they would not fit. Do look nice though. Why don't they make the bloody things to fit. They are advertised to do that.

    Regards Steve

  16. I agree they are 10mm too short wouldnt be difficult to manufacture to different length. However cutting bar is easy and i cant see any issue, reagrding bike handling as once bar ends go on the overall length og bar will be actually 10mm longer than stock!

  17. I can, if you cut the bars and then change grips at some time in the future your bars will now be 10mm too short, easier to drill the bars or to remove pins on switch blocks and that leaves more options open

  18. You are quite right, but when I did mine my view was that if I ever sell the bike then I'll sell it with the grips attached and give the original grips to the new buyer. They can then choose to refit them or not. Obviously any new buyer would choose to keep the Rizomas on there as they are so good. However, someone lacking in good taste or common sense may choose to refit the originals in which case all that is needed is to remove the much discussed nipple and move everything in 10mm. No biggie.

  19. This has turned into a hot debate! Who would have thought some little grips could spilt the learned people of the forum!

By the way I am cutting the bars! Worse case I have to buy new ones, but can't imagine I would want to change back to the cheapy rubber ones!

  20. No can't imagine anyone would want to ride with rubber bars, cheap or otherwise!
