I've only ever seen them go on Euro trackdays! As for AF width, my concern is not going too thin on the wall thickness.
Tap!?!? Doesn't anybody know how to thread cut on a lathe these days? Obviously a tap is quicker but a small batch wouldn't take long. Here's one I made and anodized earlier.
Hi all, Just an update on the US order option I looked into. CA Cycleworks did reply, the item is $29 and they want $48.68 delivery for 1 and $99 for a bulk buy of 20. So that works out at £46.24 to order 1 (crazy!) or £20.20 each if 20 were ordered. Like the other guys are saying about making them though, I would need to know who is interested before I could make a bulk order as it is a lot to fork out in the first place. I have actually got a replacement nut on the way. I contacted Riders of Bristol and they have placed an order for me, it's only a plastic one but it will do for now.
That's the problem with buying from the US, I have just bought two wiper blades for my car, they cost £4 for the pair and £11 to send them, and that was only using the US Postal service. I think a big order will attract customs import duty and possibly Import VAT duty.
hmm, that's a good point, you can't get anything past customs, didn't think of that. Oh well, was worth the quick email to find out I suppose.
I only have imperial gears on my lathe so it would cost more than trying to use a tap etc. I agree it's a good idea though and of course it would be cheaper if I had the full metric gear set
Yes, it seems they don't understand the concept of sticking it in a padded envelope with a couple of stamps. I recently bought some valve stem seals from a Canadian manufacturer and the postage was more than the parts even though I opted for the 'economy' (surface mail) option, took six weeks to arrive as well...
Are you offereing to make a run of these? I have enquired at the anodisers and they have a minimum price. So will need to make a larger batch. The estimated cost of each nut will be around £25. Hopefully less. But will need an initial interest in 20 pieces.
Hi all, Moto Wheels have just got back to me regard a bulk buy of 20. They are far more reasonable on shipping, and cheaper on the nut in the first place. It would work out at £14.10 each from them (plus delivery from me to you) which is £6.10 cheaper than the other place. It works out at £23.76 for an order of 1 as a comparison. Just another option for people to consider. If there is enough interest then this might be worth doing.
I am interested in one (nut) for the time being, I would like to know what the total would be after any customs payment as I think a bulk order would be over the threshold limit. It used to be about £30 pounds but that was quite a while ago.
The Motowheels deal sounds OK, don't know what the situation is with how many or if anyone is actually committing to making them yet? But £20-£25 seems like the going rate either way.
They actually reduced the VAT threshold for imports recently! but if buying 20 then you can safely assume that VAT will be charged, plus a handling fee which is a one-off per shipment of around £10 (depends if post office or courier etc.) So, based on 20 at £15 each the VAT would be £3 each plus the handling fee (split 20 ways), it's still less than £20 each, give or take...
I'm happy that you make them, £25 seems reasonable to me and I'd personally rather not mess with import/customs etc. plus would prefer to give the business to a 'local'
Cool. Hopefully can get them machined this week. Waiting on stock to arrive. Then get them to the anodisers.. the nuts will be with them when i am at valencia so will pick them up on my return on the 9th.
Yes time frame is not important to me either (unless it breaks in the meantime). I bought my other one a few years ago and then only fitted it last year to my other bike. I just want a spare for if/when it fails, let us know when they're ready.
Ok. I will start a new thread when i have made them and they are away for anodising. Going for one colour. Black ok?
