Ankle Boots ?

Discussion in 'Trackdays & Rider Skills' started by clueless, Apr 27, 2014.

  1. I had my Sidi's pinched a couple of years ago when we were burgled. I bought a pair of RST's but they're not very comfy.

My son has a lovely pair of Alpinestar ankle race boots that I'v been wearing lately and they are the most lovely, most comfy boots ever.

My question is........will they let me on a trackday with them ? :)

  2. Would you want to a trackday on them?

I broke both lower legs on a td with sidi boots.

  3. If you Google 'Motorcycle Track Day Regulations' some state leather boots must be worn with no definition of boot. Others say boots must be worn that fully cover the ankle.

  4. Ankle boots do cover the whole ankle and I haven't got Sidi's any more.......I'm now more confused than ever.

  5. I have never seen a rider in any class of racing wearing the low style boots, there is no way they can offer the protection of a full length boot, your legs your choice.I will stick to full boots.

  6. I bet your slippers are comfy too. Why don't you wear those?

  7. clueless? Then legless?

  8. Oh oh......the forum bullies have arrived......Thread closed

  9. Yes mate, I will bully you into not wearing daft fashion boots whilst on a trackday. This is not to save you from horrific injuries of course, just to stop the session being blackflagged in reality.

  10. I'm 50 ffs.......I ain't done fashion for 20 years.

Read my thread, I was just asking for advice.

  11. Ok fair enough. You MAY get on with them, but they are fashion items offering minimal protection (as you know). Your choice in the end

  12. The advice is, if you want to participate in risky sports like riding motorcycles at very high speed on a track, then you're best bet is to give yourself all the protection you can get. Would you wear an open face helmet, assuming you were allowed to, just because it's comfier?

Find a pair of comfy proper boots and save the ankle boots for going to Sainsbury's.
But as has been said - they're not my feet or legs.

  13. I am losing the will to live !

Is there anyone left on this Forum who knows and can then answer a thread question, instead of stating the BLEEDIN' obvious ? ;)

  14. I don't think anyone will stop you going out on track. In my experience they pay little attention to what anyone is wearing. So long as you appear to have leathers, gloves and boots on then I'm sure you will be fine.

  15. At the trackdays I have been to, scrutineering of helmets, leathers, gloves and boots has been either perfunctory in the extreme, or totally non-existent.

  16. Why don't you ask the track owners/organisers? I'm sure they with give you an answer....probably along the lines of the above. If I was responsible for checking gear, I wouldn't let you on track.

I've never seen the point of those ankle boots myself. Not much point in having your metatarsals in one piece if your foots hanging off.

Do yourself a favour and get a proper pair of boots if you're doing a track day. Everyone's ignored the original question because it's not the right question to be asking. It should be 'is it a good idea to wear ankle boots on a track day.' Answer : no

  17. Yes, they will let you on a trackday.

Whether you'd be allowed to ride your bike on the track whilst wearing them is a bit fifty-fifty.

I tossed a coin for you and it came up heads. Does that answer your question?

  18. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, "How the fuck did you Poms conquer 1/2 the world when you seem so risk adverse" ;), Clueless, do what you want, it's your feet, but don't be surprised if you're not popular if they have to stop the Track day for an ambulance if you fall off.

  19. I have a set of the Sidi Afterburners because there are no off-the-shelf full length boots that will go around my calves, but I wouldn't wear them on a trackday.

It seems you get some rather strange looks turning up in a set of Altbergs. :D

  20. To be fair, you've only got yourself to blame not just for not calling any TDO your thinking of using to check if fashionably comfortable boots are acceptable but also running the risk of catching veruca's and other foot/skin associated dieses through wearing other peoples footware.
