I had my bike noise tested today at Brands. The geezer said it was 98dB. There was me getting worried before the test hoping it would pass as it has previously been quoted to be anywhere between 104 and 107dB... I reckon they just make it up depending on how they feel. It's a bloody joke as it is so variable and inconsistent. Oh well - I had a nice day anyway and the sun shone all day so mustn't grumble. R
2 years ago at Oulton mine did 104.5db limit was 105. Couple of months ago at Oulton it passed a 102db test!! I didnt stop to ask what it was.
It is hit and miss but sometimes the emitted sound from a bike does vary naturally. I use DB killers all the time now just to be on the safe side.
I have had this particularly at Snetterton, all over the place. The problem is if you fail then it can get tricky. I remember when the KTM RC8 cup was running and they had a race that weekend and a lot of them showed up for a trackday the day before, they were failing left right and centre. They need people that know what they are doing and how to test properly.
Doing a trackday is an expensive pastime and easily ruined by the dreaded noise test. Maybe the best way to deal with the noise tests is the ride by ones rather than some goon sticking a mic up you exhaust and asking you to rev the stones off it
