I have the driving other vehicle cover on my car policy. Would this cover me to drive a car based van - namely a Fiesta van, purely for social use? It would be covered by a separate policy in its own right by the owner. Thanks all.
I think the rules are that you can't be the owner or the main driver and that the van must be insured as normal by someone else?
It's an obvious answer, but for the avoidance of doubt, I'd been phoning the/your insurance company for a proper ruling. They are, after all, the ones you would be "in discussions with" if-heaven forbid-you know......
Excellent advice above. Personally my belief (although this is not by any means factual, just my interpretation) is that if the vehicle is taxation class PLG and not being used for commercial purposes I'd expect it to be covered.
Just spoke to my insurers. The answer is no. I'm trusting that is the correct answer and not just a 'I can't be bovvered to look so ill just default to no' type statement!
Could always try again in few mins, speak to a different person, and ask them to explain why, especially as you had an opinion you were covered.
Similar thing but different! My old car policy clearly stated drive other vehicles so that's what I did and drove a Citroen relay van. When renewal came around I thought I would mention that I drive the van and they said I wasn't covered as it was commercial. I Elaine's that the policy doesn't say drive other vehicles except commercial so I am covered but as usual the insurance industry is a law unto itself and I wasn't covered. Ended up selling the car and getting private van cover.
