1200 15000 Mile Service

  1. Just had the 15000 mile service. £830. Ouch!
I just noticed that a fork oil change is listed in the manual as required at this service, but was not covered in the service.
The dealer tells me that it is not really required, and anyway it would have cost me more for oil and man hours. Question is, have any members had this oil change as part of their 15000 mile service and how much did their service cost? Should it have been a fixed price? dealer says no.

  2. Which dealer?

  3. I am a newby to the Forum, so don't want to cause any controversy. I 'll just say northern England for now.

  4. I didn't have my fork oil changed at 15k (now at 19k) and have to say that seems a bit excessive to want to change it, wherever that information came from?

My belts were changed independently of servicing and my 15k service was "free" as part of the cylinder head replacement (which put my bike off the road for 6 months), so no direct comparison of service costs I'm afraid, although I can say a recent chain/sprocket change tied in with the 4 year service just cost me C.£520, if that helps?

  5. My fork oil was changed at 3yrs old in line with Ohlins and Ducati's service specs.

  6. I should add that it was an additional £100 on top of the service.

  7. I don't own a mutli but I have the forks serviced every 12000 mls on my duke.As its ohlins though it cost a bit more.

Don't see how they do it for £100 as that wont even cover labour .My reciept from big service at JHP shows the following-

    34920401A OHLINS SEAL KIT - £42.47
    OHL-01309-01 FORK OIL ROAD & TRACK 1 LITRE - £ 28.30

    Then add labour and VAT

  8. Just checked the manual and I doff my cap to Tripletrouble - change every 24,000 km.

Have to check my paperwork, but will have to assume mine has been done as part of my free 15k service (no invoice, but service stamp in book)?

Still think it seems a bit OTT though? My R1 was 7 years old when I got rid, never had the fork oil changed and no fall off in performance - must be another "benefit" of Ohlins?

  9. All I can say is I notice a improved feel after I had both showa and ohlins serviced.Maybe this is also why I don't suffer the leaky fork seals people keep going on about on this forum.

At the mo im running ohlins road and track not ducati ohlins.

  10. If you take the forks off and send them to Ohlins (FTR) it's £100 inc return postage.
And that's a strip and check for wear.

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  11. Please name them, time is too short to figure out whom best to avoid. There is no harm, its not a court case, you had a service and they charged you what is perceived to be a lot of money. Im based 'up North' too - so Ill be keen to know. PM me if you prefer, thanks.

  12. Yes..........Ducati issue a schedule of all service tasks to be carried out and time allocations for each individual task (I have a scanned doc listing the time allocations somewhere but can't find it right now), so whilst the cost will vary from Dealer to Dealer according to their hourly labour rate a Dealer should quote a fixed price up front. The cost of the oil change for the forks should be included as and when listed in Ducati's service schedule.

"If you take the forks off and send them to Ohlins (FTR) it's £100 inc return postage.
And that's a strip and check for wear."

    Thanks, that's useful info :D

  13. a friend of mine paid £550 at woods for 15k service so yes yours is too dear , was on a 2010 multi

  14. Sounds steep for what, a valve check and belt change?
