Transporting From Spain To Uk

  1. evening all

looking into ways of bringing a load of stuff from seville, spain up to yorkshire. wife & gremlins are coming over to live here starting from the beginning of july. stuff like, matresses, suitcases full of clothes, teles, a 1998 rrw blade ;-) and loads of tools.
the options i have are either taking my works van over on the ferry, (vivaro van), or paying a transport company to bring it all over.
i've been pricing up ferries to and from portsmouth - bilbao and looking at about £600 return. from bilbao to seville there's about 600 miles. so all in all, i could do the round trip for about £1,000 or less.
the other option, getting a man with van to bring it all over seems to be quite a bit more expensive.
has anyone on here done this kind of thing before and any company recommendations would be more than welcome...

  2. When my girlfriend moved from Salamanca we just did lots of cheap ryanair flights over the course of a few months to bring most small items. THe larger stuff stayed as it's cheaper to buy new for a lot of stuff. Also we posted a few heavy items and it was fairly cheap. As for the blade, why not fly down and ride it back.

  3. cheers, mate. would love to, done it a few times already. but there are 5 of us and all the stuff out there is newish and decent. had read up about people leaving their stuff there, which i understand but then there's all the tools and tv's...
main thing is, we'll be renting the house out to help cover costs so the emptier the house, the better.

  4. Find a reputable uk haulage company that covers Spain. I just googled and a crowd callled "nicks removals" came up along with others.

They'll look for boxes count / size to quote you,

Just pay someone to do it. Ask them about bike as some hauliers may not carry it.

  7. cheers, mate. but i already have a works van. the only thing that would save would be the ferry cost (£300 ish & 1,500kms worth of fuel). thanks for the thought anyway. :upyeah:

  8. Give Steve Court at IMS a call on 07549 520502.He did a good job for me last month,as a part load on a 45ft supercube.I don't have a tie-up with him or anything, just my recommendation based on the job he did for us.
I was moving my buddy from Milton Keynes to Carthagena, but the load was too heavy for my 7.5t truck so I got quotes off Shiply.
Shiply or Anyvan are pretty good too but make sure you don't get sucked into accepting a ridiculously cheap quote:invariably they will send a luton van and then tell you it's your fault, you need a bigger truck, and stiff you for more dosh to get it done.

  9. will give him a call tomorrow. :upyeah:

  10. When mum and dad moved everything of value went in two separate car runs. Be ruthless - moving mattresses and frankly even tv's is a total waste of time as the cost of moving them far outstrips their replacement cost. As for the bike, ride it.

When calculating if its worth moving the mattresses and tv's, don't forget to factor absolutely everything into the cost - accommodation, food, fuel, tolls etc, then add about a third. It's easy to spend £2k moving £1k of goods.

  11. Oh, as a side note, there is virtually no difference in cost going from Dover and driving through France, or going via Bilbao. What you save on fuel and tolls you spend on the longer ferry. In my experience the Spain / France route is quicker, but of course it's more time in the car. With kids I may be inclined to do the shorter drive / longer ferry.

  12. Thanx for that, mate. We go the ferry route, especially in summer, because it too long a drive for a holiday. Normally go through France during the winter as the ferry takes 12 hours longer due to the rough seas around the bay of biscay. The kids also love watching the dolphins. ;-)
Can't leave all that stuff over there. We have accumulated a lo

  13. (Stupid iPhone)

We have accumulated a lot of stuff during the 17 years we've been out there. There's just too much value to bin.
    Tks for the suggestion anyway.

  14. If you're DIY'ing it and shipping UK-Spain-Uk,give LD Lines a go Poole-Gijon.
I've had a few quotes off them recently, works out muuuuuuch cheaper than Brittany Ferries
Email yesterday said they'd lowered their fuel surcharge too.
Tip:book direct with them for cheapest prices,Aferries etc add a hefty mark up

  16. in the end we hired a man with van jobby who is based in london.
he turned up at our house just outside seville the other day. got it loaded up and he was on his way 3 hours later. just as he was pulling away, it started to sink in... everything including blade had just been loaded up into the back of an old, dodgy looking lwb sprinter van with a bulgarian reg plate! :Blackeye:

straight away i started to wonder if the gear was going to turn up but about an hour ago he arrived at my house with all the gear present and undamaged!

well chuffed! all for 1,400 euro. how cheap is that!

he told me he was going to Switzerland next to take 7 motorbikes down to spain.

  18. tell you, i was shitting em.

  19. 1400 euros? Jeeesus he must be dining on warm air and a Mexican breakfast, that barely covers the derv/ferry/tolls etc...he can avoid the tolls I suppose, but flippineck I knew the Easty Beasties were cheap but not that cheap...

  20. . He told me that after the ferry, he would have €300 for petrol and food. So I gave him and extra €20 there and then I gave him another €20 when he turned up here! maybe I should have given him more but then my Yorkshire upbringing kicked in! But did send him in his way with a full can of monster energy! Thought that that would at least keep him going for a while.
