Track bike

  1. And don't forget about the van/ trailer to get the bike to the track;)

  2. Right. The hunt is on!

Ive been looking at SV650's on motoforum as starting points as they are cheap(ish). There are a few options about with various levels of spec. Ideally I'd like something with a V5 as I don't want the cops to seize the bike after finding out its been nicked!

Theres one in Manchester with sorted suspension, throttle, WOW and various sprockets for £2100 (2003 model)

Theres another much further South which is a 2004, 15000 miles with very few mods which is going to be more of a blank slate (add QA throttle, suspension etc). Probably going to cost a fair bit more to get into track trim.

Does anyone know of any others out there? Im going to hop onto trackdayriders as well and have a nose there.

Outside options might be for a Triumph Daytona 675. I have a Speed Triple and love the 3 cylinder engine so it wouldn't be as silly a jump rather than revving the nuts off an inline 4. Looks like I can get a 2006 for about £3500 but that would be in road trim and would need modding for the track.

    Any thoughts?

  3. A mate of mine runs a SV650 as his track bike in the US. It has a standard engine, but dynojet, filter and race exhaust, tuned/modified suspension and a race fairing. Easy to work on, cheap to run and he enjoys terrorizing litre bikes in the corners.

  4. The D675 is a stunning track bike, they need a few bits and bobs doing to make sure they stay reliable but they are superb machines

  5. What sort of things need doing?

  6. For track use ideally they need to be run on decent quality 10w40 oil, they need a kit oil sump gasket (it acts as a baffle, costs around £15), as they are running higher revs on track they can have a cavitation problem from the oil pump spinning too fast, T3 racing do a kit to gear it down for £120.
The only other thing is the coolant cooled oil cooler doesn't stand up to prolonged track use, there are a couple of heat sink style oil coolers out there that solve this (again around £100ish)
Other than that they are an absolute weapon and a riot to ride!

  7. Oh and they sound Epic and parts are cheap too

  8. OK thanks for your thoughts.....nothing too major then which is a good thing!

The more I look at them the more I like them :D

  9. Do it, I reckon I will be getting one as my next track bike too

  10. Very nice! I think I'd start with something a bit less race ready though

  11. Thanks @bootsam. I only I had the cash for such a wonderous plaything! I'm thinking about £3k is more likely.

  12. both great choices as both have current race series so parts and worn tyres plentiful

  13. Too much Tom......price and bike! Looks like a nice bike though...good spec.

  14. A quick, and possibly stupid, question. A track bike isnt going to have an MOT or road tax (SORN) but do you insure it? Im guessing if you do its just for fire and theft?

  15. You can yes, also there are specialised track/race insurers
