Its good to have a positive bloke representing motorcyclists on the telly for a change. However all this TV stardom, if i was his mate, he'd be getting the piss taken out of him left right and centre. It would be relentless. I hope his mates are giving him stick. By Eck.
Much though I admire him could his lack of wins at the TT be due to his determination to continue being a lorry fitter and enjoying his time in the public eye? I'm pretty sure Mr. McGuiness, Messrs Dunlop et al devote all their lives to bike racing - dedicated bike specific training, more practice etc. I read an interview where he was described as an amateur. I was a little surprised, but in retrospect technically, isn't he? Thought his interview after the big race at the 2012 Southern 100 was amazing though. 'Firsts first, seconds f-/: all'. Live on the radio and PA system. No prizes for guessing where he'd finished...
From my own personal take on him I wouldn't say he's the person he makes himself out to be.... (ive said this before and ill say it again...) Seen him at the TT (2012). Doesn't really like to talk to anyone/even to the point of ignoring people....however that might be all the race week....nerves etc etc...While he was in the paddock (when I did see him) he had his back to everyone permanently, got on his bike, while on the saddle signed 3 or 4 autographs and then gone... When his bike broke down that year (actually might have been the year before) I was nearby, he got off, started walking a few tagged on, from where I was at he didn't really talk to them....car rolled up, got in straight away...gone... Last year, down at Ramsey he was in the side road in his transit...I think he was there for about 3 or 4 mins before people got wind it was him....2 autographs and then off...my mate got one...to be honest I couldn't be arsed to get off my arse.... His interview in PB this month to me tells me as he hasn't won there its now crap....and Irish Road Racing is the best...sour grapes from what I can see... In his defence apparently ive heard that he cant understand why everyone wants a piece of him so that could go along way to the way ive seen him....
