Well, just had the bike back from 15k service and as it was a nice day thought I'd take it to work. All seemed fine on way to work but I wasn't exactly hooning about. On the way back it felt very jerky low down in both sports and touring but I thought I'd up the ante. Nice bit of fast road, top gear and at about 8-9k rpm it felt like it was cutting out, felt really weird and unsafe! Not really sure if just small amounts of movement in the throttle position was causing this....had a K&N fitted at the service and it does have a 14t front sprocket so maybe it feels less smooth than it did but it certainly felt wrong and not normal, maybe the fly by wire throttle?....any other suggestions? On a side note, this bike seems to have a Jekyll and hide side to it's character, one day it runs really well then the next it seems to be different....and not in a good way, anyone else found this?
Only in respect to temperature - mine seems to behave a little better and be a little more frugal when it's a hot day.
Mine has started to run a bit rough recently, it was never very snatchy unlike some others but has now becaome snatchy and at times the throttle response feels like a 2 stroke dirt bike when it four strokes, or is misfiring. It's random and not all of the time though. Going in soon to be checked.
Had a 15k service yesterday and it seems better than it was front wheel lifts a lot easier than pre-service, its always been lumpy at low revs but higher revs no probs till it hits the rev limiter.
Have you checked the exhaust valve operation? If you still have the cat, the exhaust valve can sometimes get "sticky".....and that really messes up how the bike responds. Of course this won't apply to Bob, as he's got the QDs.... Just on that, as an aside...Bob, you (and Boomer) were spot on....wow...the bike is hilarious now....the sound addictive...power wheelies everywhere in the lower gears....must try not to give it full gas everywhere.... I "think" it uses less fuel now too, but it is hard to be sure right now...too much gas see... ;-) Oh, and the centre stand stop doesn't work properly. I've suggested a modification to QD, which they say they will implement, so hopefully any future purchasers will not have the problem. It just needs to be narrower. And if they made it shorter (height), and put a hole in it, you could even use the rubber bung. Sorted. ;-)
Yes, apart from the centre stand stop, they are perfect.....very straightforward to fit too.... The "stop" does spoil an otherwise excellent product. I'm in "discussions" with the importer and factory as to the way forward. Probably the simplest solution is for me to cut it with a dremel (or similar) ...erm, except I don't have a dremel, so would have to buy one... ;-) Anyway, that doesn't answer the question of the original OP, so I will repost this in the QD thread.... Potential issues with bad running? Sticky exhaust valve. Clean it or disconnect it... Make sure it is "open" though. The poor running happens when it is closed, or partially closed. If you don't have the exhaust valve, or it isn't sticky, then you have another problem, and that should be properly investigated.
Sorry to hear you guys are feeling that the bikes are different after the timing belt overhaul! One can only assume that there is a slight change in the timing with the new belts? Perhaps this extentuates the jerkyness??? Would be good to hear if there has been a change in fuel consumption? It may be that your bikes were not perfect before and now that you have full HP you really notice the difference? just surmising?
Thats a little disconcerting, returning from a service and running worse than prior? that shouldnt ( obviously ) happen. Could fuel mapping be in play given the fitting of the new filter? (too lean / Rich)
Any update Bob?....diagnosed/fixed?.....what was the problem? Make a note of the Dealer and the service cost here please (and Catweazle;-) http://ducatiforum.co.uk/f6/15000-m...sts-anything-ask-tips-1770/?highlight=service
I had mine done on a voucher I bought when I got the bike so it cost nowt! They plugged it in and checked everything, TPS was ok, tech test rode it and he said it was fine. I didn't imagine it but the tech was fine about it. I have been out since but I was 2 up and haven't really had the chance to get it up to the redline, let you know as soon as. It did seem to run nice and smooth but like I said it seems to change from one day to the next....
