This will cause some shit.................I once had the pleasure of going to a bike show with my pal he took his Royal Enfiled and i took his Norton 750 commando after kicking the bloody thing for around half an hour it started.........off we go he scoots of on the Enfield and i followed him for about a mile it was spitting farting and generally not happy....needless to say the enfield was gone and I slowly rumbled to a halt a few checks later and found battery trem loose so tightened up kicked the bike over many more times and away it went it ran better it vibrated my mobile out of my pocket it was dog slow made the 600ss look like an R1 it was generally crap it broke down three more times and never got to the show on the side off the road it's not funny at all when everyone stops and says" i had one of these" what you got now then oh a jap bike mine was always breaking down..........got the bike home put it in the garage and the next time it went out it was sold and the new owner has had nothing but trouble ......last time I saw it it had the engine casings welded at the rear frame mount................it was truly awful........but saying that I went out and bought this Tiger Cub trials Oh you stupid idiot???????? Powered by a Hoover engine as you can see
Well, I wont worry too much as they'll probably come round on their guzzi's but not make it as they'll break down on the way....or the suspension will give way due to the fact its dragging round a motorized anvil....its the law of averages...
It would seem that most people have had in their lives at some point, a pup, eg I think earlier on someone said any kwak is shit, or along those lines....I must confess that's my outlook on guzzi's....I had a 04 z1000 and it was brilliant - had it for 2years and it never gave an issue, started everytime, sounded nice (titanium akra on it) and the finish was good. I would consider another one definitely...like the new ones... Looks like whatever you buy there'll always be a shit one in the bunch...
Suzuki RF900 - bought after reading a bike magazine review which compared it to the VFR800 (which is the bike I wanted but couldn't afford). They summarised by saying something like "The Honda is a better bike, but not enough of a difference to justify the price. Buy the RF900 and get almost as good a bike for a lot less money". First and last time I take any notice of so-called "experts" - had to suffer that bloody awful Suzuki for 2 years until I could afford to chop it in for a VFR, which was a million times better and worth every penny. 2nd most disappointing bike (and I'll probably be lynched for this) was the first Ducati I ever rode - a 999. Having spent years lusting over Dukes, and finally being able to afford one, I went in to place my order (test ride a mere formality). It was shite! and I couldn't understand why anyone would bang on about how great Ducatis are. Went a bought an Aprilia RSV Factory instead, which was a much better bike in MHO. Took me another 6 years to come back to Ducati (in the shape of a Multistrada) which is everything I wanted the 999 to be; fast, fun, and characterful.
Yeah - that's very well put but your missing one big point.....they look shit. They all do, I think they were designed at the Stevie Wonder/Braille/HuangDong motorcycle Co....theyre like the Volvo 440 DLT of motorbikes..... If theres a news report tomorrow of a bloke coming out of Tesco's that gets set upon by 4 badly dressed bikers Beating him with their half bent billiard pipes....that'll be me. I was in hospital visiting my old man - they've got those new little tablety things for watching tv on and getting on the net....I expect my next post to be from one of those - that's providing they leave me with one good arm!
Slightly twisting this thread... I have never ridden one and only seen one in the flesh once, but I would love to try out a BMW HP2 Sport. I hope it won't disappoint but I could be setting myself up for a fall!
I completely agree, I still have fond memories of two terrible bikes, my Honda PC 50 and my Honda CB100N They represented my first taste of freedom!

Sorry figaro but I completely agree with the sofa I hate the look of every guzzi I have ever seen, they are all very ugly and have heard a few a horror stories of how unreliable they are. Im not saying every Ducati is better as all manufacturers have made some ugly bikes, its just with guzzis they all are.
Love both of them, for me the duke is very svelte and lithe, with the looks of a graceful race horse, where as the guzzi is utilitarian and uber mechanical both lovely shame my guzzi handles like a pig stuck on a pogo stick
