Ive ridden a 1199 last year , and didnt buy as i felt it was too powerful (puff) and throttle was too twitchy to live with. I liked how light the bike felt, clutch feel, and how easy it was to ride fast. It was almost no effort to turn . I thought i would buy a 899 but some bits (swing arm, dash, forks , and reliabilty) put me off. However i have a new bike itch , and it needs scratching. Im 50/50 on one at the moment. Anyone ridden a panigale and decided against it? Anyone who has purchased one, obviuosly is less likely to slag their new bike off so its hard to get a honest review of its flaws. Ive read the 1199 thread on here about its faults. Anyone with a 848 decided to keep your current bike? why? I truly love the 848 i have , and i feel its perfect in everyway apart from its now 4 years old and technolgy has moved on alot. But it still puts a smile on my face whenever i ride it. It has its downsides , but its the longest ive owned any bike/car. My other option is to keep the 848 and look for a mv f3 675 as they seem cheap to help the itch.

So why bother. My old 916sps will keep up with all the new ducatis on UK roads and i still love it like you do your 848.Then again ive spent money vastly improving bike instead of buying the latest greatest thing.
I ride an 1198. I had a demo ride on an 1199 and although i never gave it the berries, i came away less than impressed. I was glad to get back on my 1198. Maybe it is just better suited to me or maybe I was expecting more from the 1199. I dont know. Many people love the 1199? I like the look of the 899 more than I do the 1199. The double swingarm makes it look better to me. Everything is subjective. I like the 848 evo corse. Very pretty bikes. Probably better for me too than the 1198.
I loved my 848 Evo Corse SE. But I have to say that the 899 is a couple of notches above it in terms of performance and handling. Try one and you'll see what I mean
Thanks for replies. Ive changed quite a bit on my 848 to suit me , but the next stage would be ohlins forks, bst wheels etc. With that money id probably prefer another bike. Decisions, decisions. Might go ride a 899 at some point and see what the fuss is about. I love the look of them in white, but my monster is white so it'd clash (sound like a bird dont i?). Red looks bland to me and ive always said a ducati sportbike should be red. However the tri color looks ace. Ive got lots of space to keep bikes so adding other bikes is ok. Only downside is added serviceing/insurance.
Well according to the bike beano the 899 pulls the pants down on the 848, but then they say how the 848 is faster in the challenge...lol but they blame that on lack of setup time, so if like me you then look at the times for the racing overall for the 848/899 and you see you may gain a thousandth of a sec with the 899 but so far the 848 is still faster most of the time so I can see, for the road and personal enjoyment its each to their own, I'd buy it if I like the look of it, but tbh the 1199/899 just don't light my fire, I still love the old school under seat pipes and the single sided arm, plus the sound of the underseat pipes beats the underslung termi by far! imo
I think if you add ohlins r&t forks, bst wheels your 848 bike will be in a different league.Doubt you will think about changing it when you ride it in that spec. The acceleration is jaw dropping since I put Dymag carbon wheels back on my bike and the handling is sublime with addition of lightweight fuel tank . Ive tried a few newer standard ducati bikes and they feel fecking awful in comparison.
I tried to convince myself I didn't need an 1199 and that my 1098 was more than good enough but it turns out I'm just a weak man lured and seduced by the younger model...........argh! the shame of it! :Grumpy:. However I have no regrets whatsoever! :Smug:.
They are still lots of money to buy and wouldnt want one as my only sportsbike. The 675 versions are around £6k used so could add one to the 848 as thats the sort of money id need to find to buy a 899 plus my 848 px.
Purchased my 899 to live along side my 848 evo.....wasn't long before I started to hate the evo, (wide seat and lower/narrower bars compared to the pani) and so, traded the 848 for an 1199. Well pleased (and lucky).
Had a 848 and now have a 1199s, would not swop back at all. The 1199 is so much easier to ride in traffic and at low speed, where I felt the 848 was a struggle in traffic and at low speed, especially on tight round abouts it never seemed to be in the right gear. I don't believe it runs as hot either, despite what you hear. Its so light as well, better riding position less tiring on the wrists etc. Servicing so far a lot cheaper, no doubt the 15k one will be pricy thou. All I can say is if you get one you wont be disappointed, Enjoy what ever you decide, that's what its all about in the end, enjoyment.
Have used my quote from Teztec's thread. Power is the big difference between the two..... as you have said. It's mental for the road.... You need a track to get anywhere near it's potential. I'll put my hands up and say it can be a bit frightening, if you're on it, on a typical b road, at the same time it is exhilarating and addictive. I have just ordered some Rizoma rear sets, for the 1199, as my feet vibrate off the standard pegs when giving it some beans. Better access to the rear brake too, I hope! Don't have the same issues with the 899, although like the 1199, footpegs are a pile of poo.
Wish I could get a go on an 899, loved my 848 but have heard that the 899 is far more advanced, more comfortable and more civilised which will suit me fine. My local dealer has not had one for the showroom floor yet and says he is quoting September for delivery !!!!! Fat chance of me getting one then, plus still pissed off at Ducati for raising the interest rates when nothing else has gone up in the range, greed that's all it is. Makes the bike £10 a month more and a £600 higher final payment so a £1000 increase in the space of a few days, greed !!!!
I would never have parted with my 848, spent a few pennies on suspension/mapping/akra's etc so had a fair investment in the bike. One extended test ride later and...
