I rode one, don't own enough underwear to own one. I decided not t ride the 899 on Saturday when my bike was having some warranty work done, it's just safer.
Got a 1098R, had a 1199 tricolore on order when they were first released. Luckily managed to get a ride on a 1199S demo and cancelled the tric the same day. Nice bike and all that but didn't stir the soul. Would probs have one as a second or third bike but not as my main ride.
Haha never! The yam forums don't attract the same kind of user. I get better chat here, even if it is boring!
It is pretty much, but I don't see the relevance? OP asked if folk had ridden and not bought and just relaying my choice. I had ordered with deposit down and lots of carbon etc bought upfront. Didn't like the bike anywhere near enough to part with the 1098 and cancelled the whole lot.
You said you'd ordered the Tric then test rode the S and liked it so ordered that instead and said that the Tric didn't stir the soul. You didn't say the 1199 didn't sir the soul.
No mate, never ordered the S just cancelled the Tric after riding the S. Dunno where you read that in. I do say that I would probs have one as a second or third bike. Think you enjoy trolling far too much sometimes.
Wasn't trolling. That's how it read to me. Just sounded that you'd cancelled the Tric to order the S. But having read it again in the vein that you meant it, it now makes sense
Yeh I can remember reading on another thread about you cancelling your order. To be fair a 1098R is a altogether different beast and I'm not surprised you kept yours.
The problem is a test ride is useless unless you have the bike for a weekend and manage to put a few hundred miles in as it takes a while to become accustomed to it and build your confidence to start pushing it a bit to see what it's really made of. The thing Ive found with my 1199 is that it becomes it's best when you ride it hard and it's not possible to do this on a short test ride. The 1199 is also quite docile low down in the revs which makes it seem less dramatic than the old 8/10/1198 models and this is where a lot of people are making their comparisons. My 1098 was a brutal and exciting bike and I do miss it in some ways but I'm able to ride the 1199 harder and I get more of a riding experience out of the 1199. As much as I loved the old 1098 I wouldn't go back.
For me the 1199 with not so much power low down makes it a lot easier to ride in traffic. Then you can always open it up when the opportunity arises.
