Here a few pics of my 1974 sport, in middle of resto'. Currently awaiting engine rebuild, which is progressing well. Bought it in about 1981 in Exeter. A guy from Plymouth traded it in for a MHR.I persuaded them to let me try it before they had checked it over, it was still warm when I took it out. Came back after taking it to Plymouth then across Dartmoor via Tavistck and Moretonhampstead. Traded in my dodgy Honda 550 F1, and it was mine. Ran it for about six years, then it got vandalised, so I took it off the road for some tlc. Then moved jobs, got married, had kids, and the bike stayed in bits until last year. Now at John Fallons place in Suffolk. John and Neil at 'Made In Italy' checked the pile of bits over.Frame had been modded to take front fairing, and generally cut about. Engine had been bored to 860 (wondered why it went like stink!). Internals pretty knackered due to messy surgery by someone, and oil starvation. Gear cluster shot. Tank had a sealed split, and on and on. So now putting it back to 750, and losing fairing (for now)Old Amal carbs, being swapped for Dell Ortos. Shocks are Ikons (like old Konis). Has nice original forkswith Ducati cast logo, leadind axle jobs. Had Lockheed brakes so refurbed/replaced them. May be ready later this year, waiting for engine internals to be sorted. Have a picture somewhere of bike on the day I bought it, so will post a copy up when I find it! Hope this is of interest. Ruffs
Beautiful, my favourite ducati, partly cos I had one in about 80/81 for a couple of years. Prettier than 750 SS imho. Best bike I've ever owned, pulled like a train and handled like a dream even compared to the T140 and T160 I'd had previously. Yours looks absolutely gorgeous, a stunning job being done there, I fitted twin alloy lockheeds to mine as well, and it came from Plymouth. Sold it to a guy(Ross) in Southend who raced it in CRMC. Good luck with the rest of it, hope to see and hear it one day. Cheers, Keith.
nice garage clean and tidy with loads of space unlike mine nice project as well look forward to seeing it in the flesh
All the pics got mixed up when site changed server. Best thing is everyone deletes and reposts their threads. Bit tricky for peeps who post lots of pics tho.
I think I will get a shock when I get to ride it. Slimmer tyres, more vibe, and thirty years older (me and the bike) !! Hehe
God i was worried then for a minute as i bought that Yellow 916 two weeks ago i was very confused Love the other Yellow bike nice 750 very nice detail !
Yellow 750 Sport? Yellow? Goddam it's just so F.C.U.K.ing ugly. How can you possibly admit to owning it? Yuck. (However - ever one to help - if you need someone to "take it away" for you I should be ONLY TOO HAPPY TO HELP . . . ) Stunning - "jealous" doesn't begin to cover it.
Hehe. Cheers Rhino. It's been a long time coming, off the road for 26 yrs to date! Quite a stretch when you ride it I recall. Rupert Paul tested a really nice square case 900ss bevel in Classic bike this month, said it nearly killed him! So I'll have a shock I think.
Anyone got suggestions for tyres on this thing? Has original Borriani rims, and will have tubes. I'd like something a bit stickier, but not sure. They'd need to match the capabilities of the whole package. The rear shocks will be higher specced Icons.
TT100's. Avon Roadrunners or Pirelli Phantoms Steve......all updated compounds but traditional tread patterns....btw, did you get your dB killers ok?
Hi Nog. Thanks. Did get them, meant to PM you - apologies. Really nice job, the mods you made. Will use 'em for track days, when the testers are out. It sounds great without!
Hey Ruffs - saw Ruperts article, very good it was too. FYI he and I were at school together and one of our teachers was the late Geof "Gabby" Hayes, a great teacher who rode a series of wonderful old brit bikes. Without a doubt he encouraged my (and possibly Rupert's) love of bikes. I remember well him teaching us the difference between two strokes, four strokes, diesels and wankels - when we were 8 - 10 years old! He had an old trails Triumph and when it snowed he used to tow us behind his bike on a sledge - yeah we thought he was wonderful.
