1965. I have just started at a small primary school in Roehampton, London. I am 5. There are three groups in the small class: the Green Trees, the Blue Boats, and the Red Engines. I get put in the Green Trees - this is the novice group for newbies and/or thickos and am soon made aware of its lack of prestige. I aspire to be in the Blue Boats. The Red Engines would be nice, but it's an impossible dream. God knows what you have to do to be moved into that group. I do get promoted to the Blue Boats. I am happy about this. But I never do attain Red Engine status as we move out to the country after less than a year.
You do find some quick guys go in novice to make themselves feel good, but normally its because their mates are or its he only space left. My mates are doing Rocky in a few weeks, by time I decided I wont be racing so I'd do this instead there was only room in novice. I shall be watching only Lots have track bikes that are race bikes, but dont race. Seems every other one on a TD is, bit actually the numb who race, unless its just before a race weekend there, are trackday riders using a tack bike
If you were 'aspiring' at 5 for a better set, you should be designing the next exploration to galaxies beyond as you truly were a unique child
I'm a pretty easy going person, but I am competitive. I'm not someone who has to win all the time, just be as good as I think I can be. Sometimes, that will mean beating other people - it often does. But I don't have a problem with people who are just manifestly superior in some field. I used to play squash for a time with a guy from the agency. He was 26, I was in my late 40s. He was well over 6 foot, I'm 5'10". His sister played for England - and he could sometimes beat her. I never took a set off him - not once. I got very close and I would reduce myself to a sweaty pulp trying. But I didn't care, so long as I got close and gave him a good game. On the other hand, I did once uncharacteristically smash a squash racket into the wall - deliberately - and broke it in a fit of evil temper. I was playing someone I should have been beating and I was playing very badly - and it upset me. Not my finest moment. I'm generally a gracious loser and not a smug winner
I have been called today to be told I have to start in the Inters group due to my "experience and ability". To be fair, it is good to see some sort of streamlining is being done, although I may call them on this.
Wow!! Wasn't me guv, I said nuffin. May see you there when they see me wobbling around on the tank lol
Coppice. Probably my favorite corner in the whole wide world!! I love blatting out of it then a high speed wheelie where the track dips before Foggy esses.... Ace!
I love the entry but i am always surprised by the exit. I need a proper track bike to commit to it completely. This holds me back on track days. I can't afford to get it wrong. :Chicken:
Thinking if its wet I'll be asking to go into inters, as I wouldn't want to be out with fast guys on full wets dragging me along
