Just been out for a 50 mile shake down ride after my half faired 900 ss passed its mot after buying it in a neglected and bodged up state 18 months ago and it sitting in my shed since then with leaky fork seals and such like. I had a fully faired one about 10 years ago but I think age is catching up on me, the screen directs the air to just below my helmet, pushing the helmet up and the wind noise is really tiring even with plugs in. Throttle middle finger went white, I am prone to that even just working in cold weather now. Thinking I'll try and get rid of the fairing some how, get a nice big round headlight and try and hide the fuses and bits somewhere to keep them out of the weather. The super sports don't look that good naked, with all the back end bodywork then nothing up front. Thing is I like the clipons and rear set footrests, just the fairing, dump that and I think I'll be happy. Was fun though, forgot how good the midrange power is.
I'm a shorta*se, and have taken about 30mm out of the seat, but the wind blast still hits me in the upper half of the chest.
One of the higher screens would put the wind blast just where mine is then, maybe, possibly? Think I really want to dump my fairing, a bit of wind to take the weight of your hands but not concentrated anywhere. Neil.
paulk563 is tall.....he has a flip up type screen, the 'not too obvious' type..........seems to get on alright with it.....
Any idea where he got it from Al? Memoto possibly do one. A get me through the summer screen would be good. Then maybe rewire and go naked. Neil.
Ha chisel, you wish. What you got? I love the 900 SSes rawness, I had a darmah SS years ago, whipped the fairing of that and it was absolutely fantastic. Did the same with a mk3 Le Mans, brilliant bike too. Don't want a sit up bike, you know what I mean? Clip ons and rear sets and naked cafe racers rule and v twins, preferably desmodromic. Don't like the current new Ducati line up, we'll the ones I do like no way I could afford them.
Send him a PM..........he normally replies fairly promptly............if he doesn't, I will ask him when I see him next, which should be soon. I have just acquired an unused good quality Powerbronze screen, smoked tint, of the standard shape........I may well fit it to my bike and transfer my black one to the twin headlight fairing...........on the other hand I may not......I keep switching from full fairing and standard headlight to twin headlight; then to half fairing with either nose........Can't make my mind up which I like the best.....
I'm 6' 4" and it's a little cramped for my legs but I love it and can put up with the minor discomfort over long distances for the enjoyment I get out of it. May get a gel insert and rear sets one day
Blo#dy h#ll 6' 4" on an SS it's hard enough just being 6'. You're right, what a bike, it is worth it I bet.
Hover on the email icon top right and 'Start a new conversation'...........type his name in and away you go.......
H Wolfhound, have you considered lowering the clip-ons? Might be worth trying, I moved my carby ss bars as low as they can go (before the fork leg flares out) I'm over 6ft tall and it was better for me. Personally I couldn't get on with the Skidmarx flip up, I still have it if you want to try it.
I'm 6'4" too. It's a pain with bikes and they're getting smaller too. I made my sv650 into a naked cafe racer thing and to be honest the wind on that is quite hard work. I've not ridden my 750ss yet (needs a bit of work...) so i can't say what that's like. It has a standard shape screen. I've tried flip up screens on other bikes and never got on with them. Double bubble type ones gave bbetter results for me. Bit counterintuitive, but there it is. Mick..
I'm 6'3" and my 750 and 900 have standard screens,I don't have the issue...mind you I've got tinnitus already. The bikes feel small but who cares when you're larruping round the lanes
