The People Have Spoken

  1. We have been here before :Hungover:

  2. we're not getting the Euro, probably ever. The only good thing Gordon Brown did for this country was to stand up for the Pound against Blair, who wanted to take on the Euro. We would have been another Greece under the Euro.

  3. Hey Pete guess which UK party won the most votes and seats in the European Parliament election ?

Now that is what I call democracy.

  4. Liebour ?

  7. I see Wee Eck had a whinge about the BBC's lack of coverage for the SNP. The problem with the BBC is that it is too London centric. A bit like the UK economy really.

  8. Does it really matter who we vote for? Is there any difference at all?

  9. It didn't. It might now ?

  10. Very entertaining to hear the mainstream leaders comments this morning.Lots of but..but and' taking on the clear message the public have sent us'.The only honest comment I heard was from Menzies Campbell who basically said the voters had had enough from the mainstream parties-and didn't have faith in them.

  11. I wonder why that might be ?

Taking on the message is one thing but acting on it is another.

  12. i liken it to a kid where you keep saying to them don't do that, don't do that!"........but the kid continues not listening, .......eventually you chuck them out......then you get "OK ill change"........No you won't!

  13. The Lib Dems apparently "collapsed" because Nick Clegg failed to get the message across properly !- Not that the public has had enough of the EU and unlimited immigration from EU states.

  14. Come on Pete

That is the problem with democracy, not everyone gets the result they want.

  15. Personally, I think that's part of the problem, but the Euro elections are a great way to send a message to the usual parties without having to be governed by a party that has no experience in local or national government. It's obvious that UKIP will make headway in the general election, but I think the result will be different when people think about electing a party that has no actual experience in running anything. Except a piss up in a brewery.

The way I see this vote is that it is pushing towards the right. If the Conservatives want to capitalise on it, they will push their policies further towards the right, in the period before the general election, possibly at the expense of their relationship with the LDs. Cleggy is a dead man walking, politically speaking. There is very little capital to be made in trying to please him, or his party.

  16. some of the people have spoken, however not all the country had local body elections - certainly didn't where I live

however the EU elections paint a slightly picture

personally I think political parties should be removed from local body politics and people should be elected on individual merit

  17. I think it's okay for us voters that are capable of thinking about our voting at the general election. My biggest fear is the number of voters, who don't normally vote, coming out and voting for all the wrong reasons and the wrong candidates.Very easy for sections of the voting public to be carried away for the wrong reasons. It has happened before.

  18. I don't think that the mainstream parties will get voters returning in their droves just because it is a general election. At best UKIP will win a handful of seats, let's face it they are not a credible party of government, but that means it is less likely for the mainstream parties to win an overall majority. Unfortunately that probably means another coalition where manifesto promises can be ignored.

  19. It could happen that the UKIP party do become a 'credible party'to a chunk of the population who might bother to vote if the UKIP hype appeals to them.As yousay, another coalition on the cards perhaps?
