My rubber is getting low and I have a great trip down to the Alps planned next week, so although they have some miles left in them I'm gonna get some new boots, I read PR3's are the way to go, any other options?
Dunlop sportsmarts Probably not as good as p3's in the wet I guess? But a great sticky tyre on the dry stuff, just done some great twistys in Italy and the sportsmarts were spot on ! Loads of confidence !
Metzeler Z8's if you can get hold of them....MCN says they saved a lot of time/seconds during a recent track test. I wanted some, but they were out of stock so did the PR3's instead.
Had Roadsmarts on my Sprint ST and were on Multi when i got it, they are really good, and only brand that are a triple compound rear, good in wet and dry, never had any moments with them, but have to say that dont know when they were fitted to multi, but its just had its 7.5k service and the rear roadsmart was goosed, and mileage on sprint for the rear was only about 4k. My short list was between maxxiss tourings, Z8's & PR3's My local guys who maintain bike refused to fit Maxxis, so went over to Leeds Bike Tyres for a look, they said the tyre to get was PR3's, were same price as Z8's the two reasons were, the internal bands of the PR3's are not steel as in Z8's which means that they can take a puncture repair plug, and overall performance and mileage was pretty good. Z8's may be exceptional in the wet, but there is no stories about dry performance. Set of PR3's from Leeds Bike tyres was £240, cheapest i could find in local area, will fit free to loose wheels or £30 ride in service, really helpful people.
You won't regret it Aztec, I fitted some a couple of Month's ago & not one to make a fuss about fitting something different to jusify it but can't believe what a difference they have made, wet or dry!
I would steer clear of the Maxxis tyres. There is a reason they are cheaper than the big name brands.
Not only the performance but the plush ride you get from the PR3 is incredible. This tyre was made for the Multi.
They do get good write up's in tests and yes they are cheap, and are popular in other biking areas, but decided against them in the end.
Pr3 Agreed. After the original Pirelli Scorps, have tried Bridgestones, Dunlops, now Michelin PR3s. £285 the pair, fitted to bike from EssentialRubber (Bow, London E3 3JX) on 14 June. Done over 3,000 miles on them including lots of twisties and Alpine passes in the wet. They are wearing well and feel great. IMHO the PR3s are the best all round I have discovered so far.
To be fair the roadsmarts a couple of years ago were the boots of choice for sport tourers, as they were a new concept on the market, but things develop and get better, as with everything
Got my Metzelers Z8 put on .. My friend driving the bike back said he felt very secure in the rain... to the point where he had forgotten that he needed to rub them in! They look very strong and sturdy... deep grooves... hope to get 10K km out of them.. grtz Koen
As a newer brand they have to pitch cheaper, otherwise no one will buy them. They are receiving very positive reviews.
