Polishing exhaust pipes

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Stebinners, Jul 15, 2012.

  1. Has anyone buffed the exhaust pipes, not keen on the dull look?

  2. Not just buffed, but ceramic coated to give a chrome like finish, this was on a 1098 though.

  3. Hehehehe

The clean bug is spreading

  4. Did you polish in situe or remove? Just you say you used the mop on a drill I assume so you didn't remove?

  5. Its a system off job mate. Depending on the condition you would be surprised at how good autosol will bring them up.
Post a pic of yours up and I will have a look.
im sure you can have it done by the pros for about 100 quid which is a bargain.

  6. Come on! Who doesn't like polishing their pipe? :upyeah:

  8. damn i like that but never took pipes off before...be a bit worried putting em back on!!

  9. this thread is right up my street. who cares about riding the damn things..ive done about 400 miles in 4 yrs..

i used autosol on wirewool to break through the discolouration then lots of elbow grease. after which a hard cotton mop on a drill using brown then blue compound. finish with autosol on a cotton cloth. its held up really well for the last 7 yrs of owning Bella. just the occasional clean up is required-not major surgery. the coatings look good but i'm inclined to think that they take the edge off the shine. i did the MV when i owned her..both bikes were a genuine mirror shine -like glass..no swirls scratches etc..

  10. I did very similar to Funky, I gave it a good rub with wirewool to remove the tough stuff and to get into the fiddly areas. Then using a firm mop on a drill, I polished with blue and black compounds. Finished off with Autosol and a little duraglit.

Instead of holding the drill in my hands, I stuck it in a workmate vice and then I held the pipes against it. The same way a polishing machine would be set up.

  11. Seem to remember on Ducatisti someone used those bags you use to clean oven trays etc, looked brand new afterwards and his were miles worse than yours.

  12. That's the nuts I wanna do mine

  13. Id leave the polishing to the Harley crew.
