OK - time to resurrect the thread. The SL arrived (1199 forum). Flew to UK this week to finalise the build with MR and Mr S talked me through the BSB bike they had in the work shop so I could understand the options to make best decisions. I will list below the plan of attack now, as it has changed to a degree since the first post, as we now know a lot more about the SL. Chassis: Ohlins FGR 300, CRC triples and head stock with all the bits and bobs needed to make them adjustable - lots of fiddling about with brackets and hangers etc. Rear shock is WSBK spec will just change spring. OZ ALU racing wheels, not magnesium as they are only 200g heavier and safer. Brakes: WSBK Brembo callipers and pads and discs, billet motogp brake master cylinder (and clutch) and HEL brake lines (dry breaks). Interesting for me was the brake pressure and feel these will give - today I was demonstrated.... asked to pull the brake lever at what I thought would be the pressure I would use on track...... the dash on the race bike gave a pressure reading of 42..... at most when racing the pressure reached is 10! I am looking forward to this BIG time as its what I have always wanted and only dreamt about having... didn't realise they can be that good. Engine: MR confirmed now they have looked inside a SL that the engine is indeed very special and a virtual WSBK engine. No need for blue printing or anything. Even the clutch is a per the race bike. Engine will be run in on the dyno and mapped accordingly; 2014 wsbk termignoni corse race exhaust codename +300 cause it has 300mm more pipework! The plumbing will be ceramic coated (black) - MR said the difference this makes to the rider is AMAAAZINGLY good - and given I will be riding in fooooookin hot climate, even more critical for me; Cooling - two options were looked at - fit an oversized race radiator (good for temperatures up to 40 c) or full on factory pressurised system which can deal with over 40 c. Due to the heat in DXB going for the latter - don't want to have all this work done only for the performance to suffer cause its too blooming hot! There is a shit load of work required here. Electronics: there was hope that the racing SSTK wiring kit could be used, but it appears the electronics package on the SL is vastly different to R and indeed the SSTK and so the thinking at the present is to stick with the system as the traction control, engine braking and anti-wheeli (which apparently I WILL need) as it's good you can adjust modes while riding. There is a development bike Corse are currently running which has the SL electronics on a race bike and so at some stage a "race" version will be available; 60 degree throttle providing MR can get the right solution to marry with SL electronics; custom ECU and maps; data logging. Body work: race carbon fairings, ducts and vents and fuel tank with the Imola race paint - gonna look special. Rear sets: LightTech - simply cause I had them on my R and loved them; HM quick shifter. Going to run Pirelli slicks. Target is to get the bike below 150 kilos. So, when I get myself back to DXB and arranged freight, the build will begin - MR reckon two weeks to do it, so it could be done in time for my next visit back in August and to do a shake down test....... Pics will be uploaded as the build starts and unfolds. I am sure some things will change. Until the next chapter.... be lucky!
Update: Paint Scheme - so I have made contact with RAGE Designs in UK and they are very interested in this project and want to do the Imola Paint scheme. Just need to get a decent design, so a chat with them this week should see things moving on that front. Build Spec - MR are finalising the parts list. What is cool about these guys, is that in some instances, the Ducati Corse prices coming through are so hideous, they are sourcing from other suppliers. Most parts are coming from the factory mind. I hope to have the finalised list this week. They also had their Brembo guy at Mugello this weekend getting the same spec calipers as the Ducati WSBK and am also going to fit the new T drive race discs. Electronics - has been decided to stick with SL and just add in some tweaks concerning engine mapping; word on the street is a new race electronics package will be coming out late this year which can go on the SL. Will fit the SSTCK telemetry etc though. Bike should be shipped this week - it's been a right run-around here in the UAE getting the bike for export. One cool thing that has happened is I have now registered the bike with Dubai Automobile Club, which means I can temporary export the bike anywhere for a year and it also means I don't pay duties to UK and then have to claim them back! Air freight costs received so far are £2,500 with James Cargo (DXB to LHR); am awaiting my local "fixer" here to get a quote locally..... we shall see....
Sounds good mate. Rage designs are pretty close to me. Regarding Ducati Corse pricing, I heard of a guy who through jhp bought a new wsbk corse exh system (pipework only) and he said that cost him £4500.:Wideyed:
Jhp have moved?! Lol sounds cheap actually, the big system is 6500 I think, dont know if that includes cans
Sorry, I got there address wrong, they are still in same place mate £6500 HOLY CR%P!!!! Hope thats with the cans.
the factory tank is mega mega mega bucks I bet, if you can get one, bet you'd have to have one made as a copy. But mega bucks probably still
Found the price quoted on usa forum. " U need the 800 gas cap as well ours don't fit to the rs tank Tank alone is 5650 US dollars Gas cap 800 " Part No. 586.1.177.1D RS Panigale Tank unit Righthand Tank Protector Part No. 460.1.524.1A Lefthand Tank Protector Part No. 460.1.525.1A Anti-vibration Foam Kit (external) Part No. 460.4.002.1A
man oh man, what a bike that is going to be.. 6500 is with cans. WSBK tank needs other pipes and those are true unotbainium ... I know of 'factory supported' teams that have 2 on loan..
^ the factory tank used now significantly changes the bike - it is more to do with weight distribution and lowers the fuel and brings the electronics away from the nose cone more towards the rider...... mega changes required and hugely expensive. The next best bet would be to get the 21L tank from fullsix..... looks similar to RS tank too.
Bro, keep the stock tank. you only need 10 ltrs max for a session... don't spend fortunes on loosing weight and the add liters of fuiel you don't need. Plus bigger tank had bigger 'slosh'-factor.. i m working on shorter seat+ tank bulb to keep you more backwards... saw it on the EAB WSSTK bikes.. have one on order...
The only reason I mentioned the RS Tank was thought He was tryin to go the full WSBK 1199RS Bike route regarding looks Also, Not sure if I am right or wrong in thinking that maybe the RS Tank adds Capacity to the airbox size or not? Whatever way you go, its gonna be another work/build of art, like kope's bike and THAT is one hell of a hard thing to do when the roadbike looks stunning to start with.
This thread is and has the potential to be most interesting, and i am also impressed someone has managed to get the word' sensible' in to it! ( From a mere mortals perspective of course, such as me)
