1098 Had A Bit Of An Off :-(

  1. Tbh this is one of the reasons k dont have a ducati superbike for track. Seen too many destroyed because they run for a short time on their sides, whereas IL4 seem to be less bothered (and my gixer has a tilt switch as standard)

Saying that....the 600/620s seem to cope ok

  2. Ive put mine down on the RHS twice last year. Both at 2mph. Bikes fine. But I know that sometimes shit happens.

  3. nah. droped on left could it of pushed the gear shaft through and rubbing on back of clutch can you feel the vibration through gear leaver

  4. The gear change lever is pretty mangled.

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys. I'd offer a prize for the correct diagnosis once confirmed, but I'll be broke by the time I've paid out for repairs...

  5. Have you taken the clutch cover off and had a good look around? May be something simple you never know like rubbing against the clutch. I'd take off what I could, put it back and give it a spin. End of the day, ifits fecked its fecked, so not a lot to lose

  6. Very supportive :). Lol!

  7. The gear change splined shaft operates the selector drum higher up in the cases.
It is only linked by an internal arm, so unlikely a direct cause.

  8. If it only makes this noise out of gear then it is not main bearings, they would make a rumbling sound anyway, this is high pitched and sounds like something is stressed. I don't think its as serious as it sounds.

  9. No news yet. My leg has been a bit sore this week, but no more than bruising, so I'm waiting for that to pass before tackling my bike's issues - which is when the real pain begins :-(

I did take another look last night and spotted another expensive part broken - the 'brass' coloured elaborate piece that supports the front fairing on both sides and then runs under the clocks. This is broken on the left side at the tip where the mirror attaches. That's got to be expensive - pity it wasn't designed so the mirror would break first.

    My poor bike.

  10. Magnesium front subframe I think yeah expensive for sure

  11. Is this on 1098? About £100

  13. fully comp insurance?

  14. Thanks, that's much less than I'd feared.

I do have fully comp insurance, but I'm going to cover this myself unless it gets really messy. The only damage is to my own bike, and I'd like to be able to afford to insure more than a 125 next year.

  15. I'd do the same Snips.

There was some HK ones for a lot less, but as it was the 3rd party paying for mine I bought genuine.

  16. I wrote off my base 1098 in 2012 and to be honest my insurance went up...............by about ten pounds. was a single vehicle accident.

  17. if it costs more than your excess +10% go to insurer IMHO. If you have NCB you don't (with most) lose it all, just 2 or 3 years

I don't know though if you can get mechanical issues sorted, but can't see why not; if its smashed to pieces they pay all not just for bodywork :)

  18. Changed the magnesium support and nose cone on an 848 due to a flat screen tv in the garage winning the argument.
Not too bad a job to change it all, couple of hours tops.
