Buying A Sf

  1. Hi

As the title says I'm looking at getting a Sf. Currently have a 1200 Multi which is a great bike to ride but afterwards I just park it in the garage and don't look back at it. To me that's part of biking, most modern bikes deliver more performance than we can use, want or need but I have to just enjoy looking at it as well.

I have a test ride booked on a white Sf from Palmers in Hemel Hempstead for next Saturday and just wondering if the previous owner is on this forum or if anyone knows the bike. Has a full system and just over 4k miles on it and has been kept very clean.

However there is an S for sale from Rite bikes on Autotrader but it is £1300 more but the ohlins kit does look good. Not to bothered about the TC as I tend to turn it off when it's dry. The Sf will be my Sunday morning bike with the odd trip to Europe thrown in.

  2. For £1300 go for the S without a doubt.

If the mileage is similar as is the year it's a no brainer

  3. What he said ^^^ blingyblong n'ohlins all the way

  4. Yup get the S :). Wish they'd do an 848 S :(. Be easier worth more when you sell to :)

  5. The fact that you are thinking about it and drooling over the Ohlins, means you'll always have a niggling feeling if you don't go for the 'S'.

I love mine by the way.

  6. Go for the S, I tried all 3 and settled on the S just because of the Ohlins.

it's a beautiful bike in & out of the garage and if you hunt out some of the DP parts it's even more so.

  7. Def go for the S

  8. Had a call from the dealer saying the white one they had in has been sold so no test ride this Saturday. Will get the Multi in MCN tomorrow and see how it goes, the S in red does look good failing that a base one in white will do.

  9. I didn't get a single call from an MCN ad. Paid £40 for 3 weeks in the paper and online.

Sold in 3 days for full price on eBay.

  10. I know that bike very well - It was mine :) And it was sparkingly clean as I looked after it incredibly well, only had about 4.5k miles on it. Never seen water, washed it with Vulcanet wipes only.

I'm not surprised it went. It was mint. An 'S' for a couple of quid more is well worth it mind.

... though white is the best colour

  11. Cheers mate will give that a try first

A credit to you as was in good condition. If I can't find an S it has to be in white. How's the Tuono compare?

  12. The (white) Tuono is a great bike. I do like the additional power and the knowledge that there's all the APRC electronics there to assist should business get out of hand. The anti-wheelie really impresses me. The Tuono is much better behaved at low revs and around town too, the fuelling on the SF always bothered me and having to slip the heavy clutch in traffic was painful. I find the Tuono more fun to ride enthusiastically, its easier to manage the power and loves a corner. And it sounds immense; I have the Akrapovič carbon can with decat pipe on mine, its like my own MotoGP.

However it is nowhere as pretty as my SF and it is lacking that Ducati character that we all love. The mid-range punch of the big SF was a joy and combined with the Termignoni pipes and dry clutch was a beautiful racket. I do mourn my SF a little.

As I've said on these pages I really do hope that Ducati sort it out and deliver a new super-naked based on the 1199. The Monster range is too soft and a Panigale too much for my 40 year old limbs to tolerate. If they did so and priced it competitively then it would sell.

  13. A credit to you again Matt as you don't look 40 :)

  14. Ha - cheers Nick though you're too kind. You caught me on a good day :)
