Nice bit of PR for Ariel, non story though. Police draft in 350bhp Ariel Atom for motorcycle operation - Motorcycle news : General news - Visordown
hahaha thats ace. they have just blown a huge chunk of their budget on an anti speed-speed machine. they wont chase you anyway so whats the point? knobs
Or they could just use...er... a motorbike. In fact, for that kind of money, a whole fleet of motorbikes.
Publicity stunt. The number plate tells you it's Ariel's car with decals and lights added for a photo opportunity. Imagine the fall out if a biker died being chased by that. Even the most bike hating chief constable isn't that daft (although I could be wrong on that bit !)
The comments under the article shed some light on this and do make a little sense, I too would think this no more than a stunt, a stupid one at that. The pig is more likely to die chasing you than the other way round. Sorry about my strong description of the police but I am no real fan of the twats.:Snaphappy:
It'll be Ariel's car. Just like the Panigale the police were displaying at Donington. The cop told me it was Ducati's bike, and they give them out for publicity.
Saw the thread title and thought the cops were getting some sort of ultra strong detergent combined with a spring mist fresh fabric softener, which quite honestly would be a waste of tax payers money and is of no relevance to a motorcycle forum.
How is it a waste of tax payers money if it's Ariel's? Unless of course the tax payer are subsidising Ariel. Which I doubt.
If you read the post again you'll see I was taking the piss on the threat title, its an Ariel Atom not Atom Ariel, I associate the word Ariel with washing powder for some reason, must be my house husband occupation kicking in.
Nice bit of PR and an incredible machine. One of the few cars that you have no chance against on a bike.
Publicity stunt, designed to get the public talking to Mr. Policeman. Much in the same way Devon and Cornwall Police have / had a Hardly in plod rig. Fair enough, I suspect it didn't cost them much if anything to buy and they used it for their r'Ride Safe' day thingyies.
