That makes sense, I don't know if the aluminium 999 tank will do the same? In any case with the exhaust system its running its not going to be quiet
Really, I thought it was aluminium. Oh well, you learn something new every day! It must be light gauge steel then because it weighs bugger all...
I have just picked this thread up, looking really good mate and thanks for all the updates etc. I am glad you went with the SSSA; and actually can't think of a better choice than the Monster one, I think a Superbike arm would look silly in there. Once thought, are you worried that the light front wheel and (I suspect) heavy swingarm and stock 848 wheel will make the bike very rear heavy? I guess for the style of bike it's all relative. Had you have put a stock 3-spoke from a 748 on there it would be worse, those wheels weigh a ton! Best of luck with it.
Cheers mate Am i worried about it? In all honesty no, not really. A lighter rear wheel would be nice but the Hypermorard one isn't exactly a porker, i'd never planned on getting a forged magnesium front wheel tbh but when i was offered one for a very reasonable price i jumped at it! although the swingarm is a little portly there is still masses of weight removed from the frame at the rear of the bike and if anything i think the weight bias is going to be towards the front.
Lightweight wheels are always good but the biggest benefit for turn-in/handling must be in the front wheel.
The Horror! I'm not an electrician and being Red - Green colourblind really makes wiring up the dash fun, especially when half the descriptions on the bike wiring diagram are in Italian and the dash ones are translated from chinese! After liberal use of Google I think I have everything labelled up. Next job is to wire it all up temporarily with choc blocks and check it all works, then I will cut it all to length and fit the permanent waterproof connectors.
Is it a Koso dash? i fitted a Translogic to my 400 a few years ago that was a pain, where does it pick up the signal for the tach?
No its an Acewell 6556, it does seem to be a nice bit of kit. It uses the ecu signal as well as a piggyback wire off one of the HT leads for the tach.
To be honest this is the first time I have done anything like this. I'm working slowly and methodically and double checking everything as I go. I laminated the wiring diagrams and I have used a dry wipe marker to match up the wires, then I went through the loom to find the same wires and labelled them with masking tape and a pen. Its well out of my comfort zone but I'm getting there
i think it looks worse than is when you have a full wiring diagram instead of just the part you need.
Good job mate. I like a challenge. Cant wait to do mine. How are you getting around the fuel gauge? A dip stick in the pocket can be a bit uncomfortable lol.
the Acewell dash has a fuel gauge on it and will read the stock 999 fuel level sensor, all you have to do is programme the dash to recognise the resistance readings for full and empty.
A battery and a bulb - that's OK A battery and 2 bulbs in series - yup A battery and 2 bulbs in parallel - er possibly. 2 batteries in parallel and a bulb - sorry, you've lost me. A motorcycle wiring loom - yeah, right.
Just break the job down into smaller parts and do one circuit at a time. You are doing the right thing already, it is what professional wiremen would do. Don't forget to check each wire for continuity before strapping everything up. Oh and don't use Scottish locks/bullet connectors, solder and heatshrink joints are best. While I am banging on about heatshrink, use the adhesive stuff. It not only provides strain relief on the joint but waterproofs it too. Worth spending the extra. If you are jointing multiple cables, stagger the cuts so you don't get a bulge in the loom. (fnar) When you've finished and are going to fit the loom, get it nice and warm first it makes the PTFE more pliable and easier to mold around things. Some car companies heat looms to 50 degrees C before fitting. Toasty!!
Been away from the forum for a while ... sorry other committments have been taking up my time ... so only just seen this! Great job so far, it's looking good. Good luck with the rest of the project. Now then do I retract the advert for my ST4S?
