Spray Paint Colour

  1. Sorry, I know this has been asked a million times, I've used the search option on the other Ducati sites but does anyone know the best spray can red colour for a 750ss? I understand that there are varying shades but I need to pick up a can this weekend from Halfords for a '91 750. I hear that Toyota Super Red or Volkswagon Mars Red are pretty close? Anybody had experience with these?

  2. I have used "Fiat racing red" in the past, but it is slightly darker then the rest of the bike!

Aquibus has some very close colour paint but i can't remember what they are called :(

If it is for a scratch, Moto Rapido do a ducati red touch up paint, which is specially made for them, about a tenner for a pot!

  3. I think Halfords offer a paint mixing service. Might be worth taking a panel in and getting it matched.

  4. They don't offer that option when going down the rattle can route unfortunately. I'm doing it on the cheap so need to use the options that they offer in the shop.

  5. Ford radiant red is a very close match.

  6. I use Ford Radiant Red or Nissan 526, both by Hycote.......I normally use the Nissan colour as the initial base top coat before the Ford Radiant Red.

They aren't perfect but in sunlight it's hard to tell.

  7. Halfords by me have mixed paints for me .. including flip paint .
Maybe some stores do and some don't it is not Halfords own but another brand and comes with a good nozzle I sprayed a fairing with it and it came out a treat!

  8. i will go with that Ford radiant is very close ,i have just done a monster in and you can not tell it from the real thing

  9. Hmm, I went with Ford Radiant and it's considerably off compared to the other fairings (maybe because I went with a grey primer)?. Will let it dry another day and see but looks like I'll have to see what else is out there. I'll see if I can Halfords to do it up.

  10. That's entirely probable...You will need at least four topcoats to cover a dark primer with sh*tty cheap rattle can paints......I use a red primer instead of white which is recommended, but with white, it is a h*lluva job to see pinholes and blemishes before the topcoats go on.........

....so having used the dark primer, I use the Nissan 526 as the first, maybe second, topcoat....and then at least two coats of Radiant Red.....

Also, if you didn't use Hycote, then the Radiant Red could well be different.

  11. Probably right there AL. I'm finding the spray technique difficult - when laying down a coat, the nozzle is so shit it's just coming out as mist (even after shaking for 3 minutes and leaving for room temperature.) It's turning into a proper nightmare.

  12. The weather we have at the moment is not good for rattle cans 'outside'..........change the nozzle over from another can........and when you finish spraying, turn the can upside down and give it a blast.....this should stop the nozzle from clogging........and.......if you get a clogged nozzle, provided you haven't left it too long, give it a blast or a soak in Wynns brake cleaner.

    AL.

  13. I follow all of those instructions. I think my main issue is just the spray coverage ( even when using a new nozzle). I'm going to pop into Halfords and B&Q later to see if they do better nozzles.

  14. Put the can in hot water it will increase the pressure in the can giving you a better spray , i have a proper spray booth but sometimes have to use cans and thats what i do

  15. As John said works for me :upyeah:

  16. Ok, will give that a go :upyeah:

I'm still contemplating sticking with Radiant Red...?

  17. Use white primer for better result.
