Ebay 750ss Forks, One Has 600ss Printed On It, Other Has 750ss??

  1. Just got a pair of 750ss forks from a 1997 bike, seemingly, on eBay.
One has 600ss printed on the bottom inside of the fork and the other has 750ss on it, apart from that they look identical.
This can't be right, have I been sold a mismatched pair of forks?

Also the package arrived, I say package but was just a thin roll of bubble wrap around the forks, hadn't even bothered to tape the two forks together, all loose, absolute cr#p, the worst thing was they had also sold a chain guard to me and had chucked that into the roll of bubble wrap with the forks with the consequence that the plastic chain guard broke, unbelievable and it was just left outside the front door by Hermes.
Going to see what they have to say about it all. Maybe name and shame them, going to stick to getting secondhand parts from this forum in future, eBay isn't what it used to be.

  2. That's a shame, I've only ever bought second hand parts off the bay before, always been ok. Both my bikes came from eBay too. I belive the forks will be the same externally, not sure on the internals mind.

  3. They should be Marzocchis and the specification should be the same inside and out, even though they have different 'numbers'..........according to the 1997 owner's handbook.

NB! Don't try comparing the performance of each because with the SS Marzocchis, one side damps compression and the other side damps rebound......

But why have you bought cr*p Marzocchis for a 900 SS? They should be Showas.

  4. Hermes is crap. They managed to bend a disc on me, and damage and lose bits of my SL cans!

  5. You're absolutely right, it has become a real ball ache. I tend to use Amazon now for everyday stuff, their returns procedure is second to none, plus they have lockers up the road in our local Coop, so if you want to return or exchange anything you just print off a label and stuff it in a locker.

  6. They were just a £100. Kind of back up spares, strange but true.
My adjustable showas I'm beginning to think are needing a bit more work, i haven't had the bike on the road since buying it about 2 years ago and recently I replaced the leaking fork seals and put in 10w castrol fork oil.

But I think I will have to replace the springs as there is loads of sag and they are hard work over anything but smooth roads, almost like they aren't moving. Compression damping at min, rebound midway, I'll maybe try sticking 5w fork oil in along with new springs.

  7. See AFPU's post Just Checking in this SS forum......

....I gave all the basic settings for forks and suspension etc............Oil according to handbook: Showa S.S8 or ATF or SAE10W20......

........but if its any help, I have FL10 in my Showas and SAE 7.5 in my Marzocchis.

  8. The eBay seller has taken the forks back and given a full refund for them and the broken chain guard.
