Hi All, I done a trackday with my 999 and after the race when i went home on a bike i recongized new knocking noise from my engine/clutch. The knocking is only for few second while the bike is on small revs and when its goes to bigger revs (from 3000) then its disappear.i tried in 1. gear on idle slowly release the clutch and again in the point when the engine starting to "go" starting to knocking. I removed the clutch cover and then the noice of the knocking is not as big like with a cover. Maybe my clutch is the end of the limits. Thanks for any post!
How about removing the plates just to run the engine without any clatter just to make sure its not the dreaded you know what
Or pull the mesh filter and see if it is bad news. I would start there from the point of view if it has gone then you dont want to be running the engine.
Hi Guys, Thanks for the replies!! I changed my oil done some kms and the knocking is till there. My friend has an 996 and there i didnt hear this knocking.Maybe the abrosers in the clutch will be out. Till it runs and i dont feel nothing in the engine i will not care.
Thought it would be along those lines as per the post "Check the sieve filter" Is this a common failure across the Range or limited to the 749 & 999 ? Cheers Dean
When you changed the oil were there any metal pieces or pieces of anything for that matter in the filter or mesh pre-filter? Do you know where the mesh filter is? You need a 14mm hex and normally an extension bar to get it off. Dont worry about the washer as they can be reused but if you havent checked the mesh filter do so before you ride it. This is what you should be paying very close attention to as if it is indeed the bottom end bearing it could lunch the engine causing all sorts of damage and if it lets go at full chat.... well, you become roadkill so use caution. This is the kind of thing you dont want to find. Jesus... Gulp... 1098r Oil Change... | Ducati Forum As you keep mentioning the clutch it is worth taking the clutch plate off and seeing if it is the pressure plate bearing. It should be smooooooth. Just a thought. Dean - its not limited at all, it happens to any and/or all of them. Can you upload a video with decent audio?
I agree with Mr. R...in my experience main bearings don't knock until the situation is about to become terminal, they usually rumble for a while first,my guess is your big end bearings are shot, its totally up to you but I would seriously advise against running it as it is,its possibly salvageable at the moment (strip down/new shells)if its not too bad, keep on running it and the motor will be toast!...and if you're riding it at the time you could be toast too if it seizes!
Hello guys, Sorry for no reaction but i was very busy at last months. The problem was solved with a replacing of the clutch and the also th eoutcomp. of the clutch + bearing.
This making sound during the strating you can mix it its realy tipical sound , unfortunately i have also experiance whit this
So are you saying that a loose alternator nut produces knocking when the starter motor is turning the engine over? And a bad clutch bearing produces knocking when engaging the clutch from standstill? Interesting... Problem is, you replaced more than one item, so we cant be sure which one was the cure.
