Sealey Oil Filter Cap Wrench Ø76mm x 8 Flutes for Fiat, Lancia, Moto Guzzi : Tooled-Up.com Evening All. Wanted to carry out an Oil & Filter change but my cup wrench does not fit the current fitted oil filter ! The replacement filter has 14 Flutes but the one that is currently on appears to have 8... Well as best as i can make out could someone tell me if this is the case please.... Just incase someone does not know what a cup wrench is, There is a link to one above. Cheers Dean
The oil filter I removed also had 8 flutes/flats, I replaced it with one the same as Chris has shown. I tried using a cup wrench but couldn`t get it on the filter, the exhaust pipe was in the way. I ended up using theses: ADJUSTABLE 12" OIL FILTER PLIER PLIERS WRENCH - HAND REMOVAL TOOL | eBay Best £3.97 I ever spent. Oh yes, don`t forget the other screen filter, it lives behind this plug and looks like this: You unscrew it anti clockwise, it can be in very tight, that`s VERY TIGHT!!! Sorry I can`t be of more help.
Dont be surprided if you end up butchering the damn thing to get it off. I have what chris posted, it works okay.
Hi Finm. Firstly, let me play the IKBA card. If this is what yours looks like then this should help, scroll down to oil pickup screen. Ducati Oil Change - webBikeWorld Once again, I Know Bugger All applies here.
genuine ducati filters have 8 flutes on them, various different aftermarket filters and varying numbers of flutes you could just buy genuine filters or alternatively buy an assortment of cap wrenches to suit the alternative filters out there I find it easier to just buy the genuine filters and save myself the grief of never having the right cap wrench on hand there are numerous threads on filters being stuck in place and having to be removed by various degrees of butchery, having done this myself I now only fit filters to which I have a cap wrench to hand
Cheers All . as per usual Cracking advice, Especially the Screen filter bit .... As i didn,t know it existed, i did spot the plug but thought it must of been some form of detent plug for the Gearbox Etc..... I'll be sure to clean that out also as i have now purchased an 8 flute cup wrench for a Fiver.... Dean
Hi Dean. You`ve probably done the job already but if not, I`ve got some torque settings you might find helpful. The first time I changed the oil on the monster I bit the bullet and carved myself an eight sided ring spanner to fit the std filter, out of 8mm steel plate. Took me the best part of an afternoon, but the bike's a keeper so I was anticipating many subsequent usages. At the next change I was considering using a non std filter but was annoyed to find that they mostly had fifteen flats. Not sixteen, which would have been vaguely sensible and would have still allowed my homemade wrench to fit, but bloody fifteen just to be a nuisance !!! So its std filters for me, or else K&N with their handy hex nuts on the casing.
Cheers Pierre. I have not got around to it yet .... The plan was today but its a wash out Somebody keeps throwing water out of the Sky Dean
Somehow even though it may take you a while to make Home tooling there is a real sense of achievment once you have completed the Job So Top marks there Dean
