  1. hi people
i had a senior moment last sunday and filled bike to the brim with desiel.
went for about 50 yards before it hit me.
white smoke was a giveaway. i know fecking doughnut!!!!!
any way got bike home AA fuel whatever man came out and took £220 of me.
drained tank added fuel and cleaner said it would dry and clean all oil away.
after a few trys she fired up and with in 5mins was smoke free took round the block
    and ran perfectly.
he told me it should be fine now.
rode it to work yesterday no probs, rang duc coventry for peace of mind and told it
would need new filter tank cleaned injecters cleaned or oil would clog it all up.
spoke to several people in trade and been told it will be fine as it is as additive used
    would do all that anyway.
any one out there willing to own up had same experiance or got the knowledge to help me
or do i bite the bullet and fork out more cash ?
    cheers
    dave.

  3. as above, it probably would have messed up by now if it was going to. You might want to bring your fuel filter service change forward a bit though just to be on the safe side.

About 25 years ago Mr Y.C. Kim of Panther Cars accidently filled up his top-of-the-range petrol Mercedes with diesel once. Phoned the factory (literally quarter of a mile away) and was told not to drive and workshop would come with a trailer. He drove it anyway but he didn't get away with it and car needed the whole of the injection cleaned.

  4. £220 to empty the fuckin tank! :Arghh: It will be fine now, though maybe run some injector clean through with a tank of fuel

  5. I wouldn't worry either. The cleaner should do the job and the petrol will flush out the diesel.

As Chris said I'd change the fuel filter sooner rather than later as it may be a bit clogged with diesel. Being oily it will lubricate, so it should be fine

When you have to worry is when you fill a diesel with petrol, that's a whole different ball game

  6. Diesel in a petrol is OK, well at least after cleaning out although it maybe worth changing the fuel filter to stop it smoking as the last remnants pass through? £220 seems a bit rich though!

Petrol in a diesel can cause an expensive repair bill - my Father in law filled his diesel Mercedes with petrol, then drove it 'till it stopped, repair bill was in the thousands...

  7. I have put petrol in diesel motors numerous times. Empty it out, flush through with diesel and away ya go.

  8. over here in the land of joey there are a couple of very professional firms you can call out if you make a boo boo filling your car.they empty fuel system and use new fuel and cleaner for around £120. the fuel removed has to be disposed of and a certificate issued for hmrs,in fact their pumps are metered and sealed for customs inspections.

  9. I have never been so stupid as to have done this, but my neighbour has in his 330bmw. you must be brain dead to do this. in fact have an iq of one.in fact your parents would be circus freaks.a class one numpty.
and I wouldn't go on a public forum.....oh you know what I mean :Bucktooth:

    this may not be fact.

  10. nearly did it 2 weeks ago and I think if you are experiencing similar brain fade to my ageing cortex (DLPFC) I should explain :- below is the best I could find but doesn't reflect the exact layout of the nozzles in the Shell stations I frequent, i.e. - the V-Power Petrol and V-Power Diesel nozzles are next to each other with very similar labelling (including the slash/black/red colours on both, not as shown here).. I had the nozzle in my tank but something made me hesitate - lucky day for me, and i'm 'on it' now : )

  11. Could this be the reason behind the smoking Fannygale's?

  12. have to disagree for the record - this done possibly in the winter here or definitely in a colder climate has a good chance of stopping an injected car or motorbike in it's tracks.

  13. you sound as if you drink to much beer

  14. yes lol thank you.................hope it didn't do any damage , keep er lit.

  15. pmsl. bike will be fine. i did it too to a week old 1198. i just took tank off and tipped it out. Smoked for a tank or three but has been fine.

glad i am not the only numpty :upyeah:

  16. never done it to the bike. done it to the car tho. £200 standard charge. a bit steep for a bike me thinks. personally i just charge the time.

  17. This bothers me something silly because one day I know I will do the same. My wife has a petrol car and I have a diesel and I have put petrol in my diesel car before, not a lot before I realised and then filled the rest up with diesel and it has been fine. Every time I fill the Ducati's I stop and think twice maybe three times before I squeeze the trigger but some days I still doubt my own actions. A gadget to prevent this would make someone very wealthy.

  18. Put a tank of petrol in my diesel pug last year - refused to pay the extra £200 call out so got my son to tow me home - :).

It's easily done - maybe a talking pump - It would be simple for a chip to be put inside the fuel flap and one in end of nossel to beep a miss match warning

  19. when i worked at a ford dealership one of the salesmen (girl) filled a new car with the wrong fuel, we took it in to the workshop drained it put a gallon in it and gave it back. 20mins later got the call from sales, she had done it again. doh!

  20. I put 0.8 litres of Diesel into my 1098 once, topped it up with unleaded and carried on with NO problems.
Drove into a garage with a Diesel Passat saying over and over 'City Diesel, City Diesel'. Filled it with unleaded. Cost around £270. The guy that towed me to the dealer said that he could have done it for £100.
