Its finally happened, I bought a 900 supersport yesterday. I got rid of my 2005 1200 bandit and picked up a very clean 1999 supersport. The riding position reminds me a lot of the rsv I used to have. When I told some friends what I was doing the response was "Why ?". The only reply I could give was "there comes a time in a mans life where nothing but a Ducati will do". now I'm just waiting for the inevitable reliability issues. As long as it isn't going to try and kill me the same way the Buell I had did when things broke off it at high speed (for a Buell) I wont mind.
I hope so, they're not real fast bit they make power where you can use it and it seems to handle well even before I start to dial the suspension in. A previous owner had it sorted by maxton but he was about 5 stone lighter than I am
My ex was a bandit rider He tried out my 600 SS found it totally different liked the way it handled in corners but as you will find out you have to ride it and set them up for corners he went back to the bandit for easy riding Probably why I found tighter bends hard to ride as I couldn't get into them properly They have niggles but they just wouldn't be SS's if they didn't They love false neutrals I found all my torque between 3rd and 4th then levelled out at 5th Have fun
My girlfriend had a bandit 600 but just sold it and bought a monster 600. She hasn't ridden it yet as it needs tax and her documents only turned up yesterday. I rode it to get it mot'd and I really liked it, but I have had some bikes over the years that prepared me for it (ktm duke 2, buell lightning, aprilia rsv, aprilia tuono factory) and I've ridden Suzuki tl1000s and tons of other bikes. I cut my teeth on a 1979 Suzuki gs1000 (that I still have 15 years later) and if you can get one of those around a corner at speed every thing else is easy.
Lol sounds like your well able I have ridden a monster but at the time found it boring compared to the SS Now I'm going to have to get one as my shoulders won't hold the SS riding position sadly
Just get a bigger Monster Viv, then you won't find it boring at all. Better still, get a Diavel. They're Grrrrrrrrrreat!
Sat on an ST today that feels huge!!! Nope I'm going with the monster because I can't go on any longer without a ducati to ride its driving me insane!!!!
Welcome aboard. I wouldn't worry too much about the reliability, I've had a 99 ss for 3 years now, ridden it through europe in all conditions and no problems to report, you'll find plentyof other examples of the same story on here too (check out Lucazades latest thread). Get used to people coming up to you and telling you why they would never own a Ducati, then smile politely and ride on .
And people like to look at the SS so be prepared for the crowds Mine was standard and often had people looking at it she was tidy all over I used to laugh to myself when men especially I think felt a little put out that a girlie was riding it
So far so good, 40 mile round trip in weather more suited to submarines and it hasn't broken I have noticed that the fuelling between 3 and 4 thousand revs is absolutely rubbish tho. Damn those emission tests.
If you look into the groups section there is SOUTH WALES GROUP.We meet up for ride outs now and again, weather permitting lol.
Yep, that's normal unfortunately, a Power Commander or similar will sort that out (with a custom map). Looks like a tidy bike, have fun
