Such an influence on a teenage lad, learnt how to be sarcastic with the best of them watching Kevin Turvey, The Young Ones, Blackadder, Bottom to name a few. Tonight I dug out the young ones DVD and watched Bambi to honour him, RIP Rik.
Sad. What I remember is the "weapons grade Y fronts sketch" Laughed my fricken head off, such talent is rare now days.
I've seen lots of wonderful tributes in the press. I've always liked the man and I even liked his Bombardier adverts. A genius taken too early, but like the greats he's will be fondly remembered, which is all of us can ever home for.
I have modelled my professional persona on Alan B'Stard and it may have crept into my personal life as well... Not sure what he died of but seems weird to just die at 56. I remember my Uni days around Bristol where we were in the same streets they filmed the Young Ones. That sort of comedy, along with Derek and Clive, was standard for students in those days. Not sure what they enjoy now, maybe there is some obscure show that gets the same audience but I can't think what it is. If a modern equivalent of alternative comedy like the Young Ones existed, I'd watch it!
Devastated by the news. The Young Ones helped me through college and beyond, it's humour was something you could relate to amongst all the dross at the time (which turns out to be quite good now). RIP
People like Rik Mayall or Rick Wright pass away young; people like Sepp Blatter or Bernie Ecclestone just seem to go on for years and years and years, like a Duracell bunny. This is proof that there isn't a god.
"What football team do you support" "Watford" "Well, I dont think Watford can play football to save their life" "I agree" "?, well then I dont agree, maybe they can play but just need a new manager" ........ Fistful of traveller cheques is one of my personal faves.
Hello El Torro, I have just posted a short vid and I have been told its in the wrong section, can you tell me what I have done wrong?
