I sweat like a rapist so I can't wear anything too thermal. I use Smelly Hansens in the winter and Skins tights and top for track and racing. As they're a bit 'Nylony', leathers easily slip off when you've been basting in your own gravy for a few hours....nice!
I have a pair of edz unders but since then I discovered that in bicycle shops (sometimes Aldo for even less) you can get same stuff for half the price.
Aldi and Lidl good value if I can get there and get it before it sells out. For some their cycling and runnin stuff too.
There isn't room for anything inside my leathers now they have shrunk, so it's just as well it's cold.... AL.
How far are you intending sliding when you fall off? If you get away with a few superficial burns from your undersuit in a crash, i would say that is a great result.
Merino wool generally and Icebreaker in particular, cool when it is hot and warm when it is cold, absorbes sweat and is naturally anti bacterial so it doesn't get smelly and wont melt either. It's not cheap but it's lovely to wear, much better than man made fibres. Icebreaker - New Zealand Merino Wool Clothing for Outdoor and Performance Sports Brilliant to ski in also.
my thinking is if leathers - lining - undrsuit - skin ends up in a burn, then leather - lining - skin definitely would have..
When I was racing, I discovered the lining in my one piece was a type of Airtex, but it looked suspiciously like some sort of Nylon to me; so apart from not wanting serious problems in the event of a spill and a fire, plus I found it stuck to my arms and legs, I cut quite a lot of it out..... ......ultimately I used to wear just cotton t-shirt, cotton u'pants and cotton socks (bless 'em), which kept the scrutes happy (and the scrote comfortable); plus some armour here and there......... ...having got used to it, that's all I wear under leathers now. AL.
Used to wear EDZ undersuit but swapped that out for Forcefield Action shirt and long pants. Kept select bits of the armour in the undersuit for a bit extra protection.
Well we just gotta have some pix! I use a really dodgy fitted string vest thing with finger tip panels - labelled for Campagnolo, from my cycling youth. Problem is hardly worked then, and certainly not now!! Kids think it's a scream. Otherwise Helly H and Proskins ;-)
I did buy some thermal underwear once by mail order and it came with a label attached which said 'Not to be worn in a combat zone'.
one of the mags (Ride, i think) did an article a few years ago on alternative sources for biking kit. One of the things they featured was an army undersuit that had millions of tiny balls in it that contain a sort of wax. In hot weather, or with body heat the wax melts and absorbs heat keeping you cool, it then solidifies as it gets colder releasing the heat back. They reckon its thin and tight enough to not add any significant baulk so can be worn under anything and keeps your body at a constant 37* core temp. They listed some army surplus store where you can get them quite cheaply, but I cant remember. The other pro for a thin stretchy undersuit for me is that my leathers are an excellent fit, unfortunately this does not leave much room for anything else under them, and keeping skin out of contact with the lining stops them getting smelly. Much easier to get the leathers off after a ride, too.
