I think you're in the clear to raffle it off... See this part: Do I need an operating licence? You do need a lottery operating licence if your lottery (raffle) sells over £20,000 of lottery tickets in a single draw or £250,000 of lottery tickets in a calendar year. Find out which type of operating licence you need, and how to apply. Just sell less than £20k of tickets!
If I had the money to hand (and was in the country!) I'd give £4k for it. Don't suppose you fancy £1k per month until October when I get back? You can keep the bike as security....
Whatever you choose to do I for one would like to say how impressed I am at your generosity and altruism. I'd be in for £50 worth of tickets as well.
I will certainly consider your offer Ian.... thank you. I will post up more detail of charity and bike when I can.
Why not conduct a poll on the forum to gauge interest? Sounds like a good idea and I admire your generosity.
Good idea.... no idea how to do that... maybe someone else can do it for me. This a link to a post on another website giving a bit more detail on bike and intended charities. 851 auction/raffle/sale Might give a better idea on the value, etc. I will take some more photos, later today, and post them up with a bit more history on the bike. I am thinking along the lines of ultimate payment to be made directly to the charities, by the person bidding or offering to take the bike off my hands, rather than me. I would then hand the bike over to the person in this scenario.... not strictly a sale then. Raffling the bike has it's own drawbacks when it comes to payment, unless this or another forum were to take on the roll of collection of monies. Help....
Cheers Finm I am wondering how I would go about collecting money. I have had an idea about setting up a 'just giving' web page and doing it this way. For example, a person donates £10 or multiples thereof, I allocate a ticket to each tenner donated and when target or set period reached I ask someone on here to draw a ticket. Drawback to this is there is a commitment to give a donation by those taking part, but a fair chance I might not reach a reasonable amount and have to let the bike go for a lot less than through a sale. Incidentally, not one for a sob story.... but, I lost a friend in 2012 to this horrible disease. He and his wife had made a life for themselves in Spain and so, when he was diagnosed, he didn't get the support that is available in the UK. These charities do a wonderful job in supporting people diagnosed with this disease and their families at what is a very devastating time in their lives.
I will take a punt on a few tickets if this goes ahead and congratulations on the spirit of the thing
If it's for charity, I would aim for selling tickets in excess of the value of the bike. 300 tickets at £25 each gives £7.5k proceeds. Similar to those you see in the airport raffling supercars... they sell tickets worth FAR more than the cost of the vehicle. You could achieve a nice sum for charity, someone wins a nice bike for a nominal amount, and (maybe, I am not a tax advisor) contributions are tax deductible? I would buy at least one just to make me feel good and be in with a chance of owning such a nice bike.
Thanks mate... More pics of bike today... well will be, seem to be having a spot of bother uploading anymore.
I have contacted my local dealer and asked them if they would display the bike on their premises.... and they have agreed. In part, this is to verify I am genuine. Good idea??? Publicity for the dealer... sure, but more publicity and awareness for the charities. What do you think? ..... based in Hampshire; would be a good excuse for a ride out to see it.... if nothing else.
