England Coming Home

  1. It's now official. They were rubbish.
Roy Hodgson say he wants to stay on until 2016. While I quite like the guy we need new young blood. Only a few of the squad should be in the Euros in 2014. We need a major rethink on foreign players in the UK. Years ago it was commonly said "foreign players will make our home grown players better" well it does not. If English players were that good they would be scattered all over Europe like other Nationalities.
Face the facts we are not good. I am not a football fan just someone who really wanted the team to do well as it creates a feel good factor. Money?, we go on about that for ever but it is the root cause as the players are not hungry enough.
    I await contradictions ???.

  2. tactics...what tactics?! If he is the best we have, we better get ready for a other 50 years without a cup

  3. Ah hubris is cruel! £300,000 a week only to be beaten by a load of fruit farmers! As I have stated previously I have no interest in this s*** for obvious reasons. When will the rest of you wake up?

  8. fa needs to limit the amount of foreign players any one team can have . Roy Hodgson must have one of the worst jobs going , well paid no doubt but no chance of fulfilling the nations dreams . Theres 18 premiership teams for him to choose his players from of which 80% must be foreign . Until this is changed England has as much chance as scotland or wales to win anything . Would be better if it were a U.K. team at least then he could have took gareth bale . No doubt there will be a EU rule that would stop any limitation the fa could impose though.

  9. Sorry mate but you are wrong IMO.;)

Foreign players only started festering the english game when the premiership was formed (92).........The last decent England team was 1970... .......and forget the 1990 semi final cos that was a fluke.:)

  10. No disagreement here.

  11. 4 years ago, i'd have agreed with you, but not now. You have some excellent young players coming through but they are still very young. Half the Liverpool team play for England, and they should have won the Prem last season - though obviously the amazing Suarez contributes an awful lot of goals.
But Barkley, Llalana, Sterling, Shaw are all very promising. Problem is, the team doesn't play enough together.
I don't think we were rubbish, either. First game we played pretty well - good attacking football. Second game not so good, but as good as Uruguay. Unfortunately, not as good as Uruguay with Suarez.

The reason all the foreign players come to England is the money. The money that Sky put into football so that you had to pay to watch it, instead of getting it for free. Where is the incentive for English players to go abroad if they get paid more for staying at home?

Also, plenty of the World Cup players play for fairly second rate English teams. Campbell the Costa Rica goalscorer plays for Fulham. If these were the top rated players in the Prem, they would all be playing for the top 6 clubs. Even Brazil has 3 Chelsea players, and Chelsea did not win the championship and looked quite ordinary a lot of the time. Then look at Spain: with all their stars they still got murdered 5-1 by Holland before losing 2-nil to Chile. Are they really useless?
if you look at matches in the Prem, smaller teams often upset the favourites. Football has plenty of luck in it, or at least matches which are decided by small things - a free kick given or not, the width of a goal post.

I think there is massive over-reaction here. No one expected the England team to shine, but it was a work in progress. Well, it hasn't shone and it's still a work in progress. So what's new?

  12. mind you, at least it was only 2... ;)

  14. So you dont think that England would have better home grown players if say 80% were english to 20% foreign . IMO i`m right more english players in the premiership would bring them on a treat . How do we know if a young championship player cant step up his game if he never gets the chance . or first or second devision player for that matter . How many foreign players do you think Germany or Brazil or Mexico etc have in their home leagues .

  15. In the darkest days of football ( the early 80s ) there were hardly any over seas players and we were still crap.

The premiership is a circus, driven by Capitalism...but it's the grass roots football that has been totally mismanaged and under funded. That's the problem.

If better players were being produced, there would be no need to bring in foreigners ! IMO of course ;)

  17. Joe Hart (never heard of him personally) concludes "we’ve not scored enough goals and we’ve let too many in".

    No shit Sherlock

  18. Thats Team Spirit "we've let to many goals in"
Wasn't it his job to stop them

  19. There are 3m Uruguayans and 5m Costa Ricans. There must be 50m Englishmen. If you can't find between 11 and 20 talented footballers you can't be looking. With stats like those it's hard to blame foreign players.

  20. Yeah maybe but if there are 2000 players in the English premiership and 2000 in the costa rican or Uruguayan premiership . There will be probably 95% of them able to play for their country whilst we have 20% ,at best, English to choose from . Your stats dont add up as there arent 50m footballers .
