Saw one today, a red mono going past the The Belfry on the A446. My god !! they just look amazing, it's a shame Ducati stopped making them so early after their introduction, I was reading an interview with Pierre Terblanche the other day, he was saying the person who made the decision to stop production of the SC has a lot to answer, Audi should ask him for his reasons, guess it's all about timing ...... I think they'll still look fantastic in 10 years.
im loving mine and Im riding better than when i was on the 1098.when I was buying mine and it rolled up on the trailer my mouth fell open, pics don't do it justice.
Unfortunately they were; Introduced five years too early and missed the "Cafe Racer " boom Introduced to appeal to the person who would buy a Bonnieville with real power but a) made the riding position far too drastic for those in their late 50's / 60's who were their main customer and b) delayed the production of the Biposto version which that market demanded ( after all they wanted to occasionally take the wife on the back ) Aimed their marketing appeal at the "young rider" market who, although they appreciated the bike, were much less interested in retro nostalgia preferring raw power and capability instead. I would say young SOLO rider, pre wife, pre kids and presumably pre girlfriend.( the young market, if they wanted race-track solo seats would far rather choose the much more powerful and capable 749 / 999 and the later 1098 etc instead...) Great bike - terrible marketing
But all problems that would be very easy to fix. Knowing now what they did then, why don't they just tweak the design and re-release them? Let's face it, it's not something they couldn't cook up in an afternoon and the demand is still there. Dire Straits released Sultans of Swing 3 times before it became a mega hit.
The Sport Classic range also included a bike that provides comfort & the ability to carry a passenger: The GT1000. One for TOGs & other old farts to have fun on.
Oooh - Sultans is my favourite track of all time - I get the strat out, plug it in, and then play the first chord. After that, I'm fecked if I can play any more......
I'm suspecting insufficient effort and application. It's dead easy to lead you people off topic, isn't it? One minute we're discussing SCs, the next we're debating the merits of Dire Straits' music and then the difficulties of playing it. Maybe I should have chosen a different analogy. You just can't be trusted.
totally agree steve.......so can we have lots of detailed picks ??????????????I think the sc's are over time beginning to become real in their own rite, people are coming up saying they remember them etc etc.plus old blokes come up talking about old bikes lol. I really regret selling my bought new sp1 and should have squirreled it away to enjoy over and over again. im now planning on keeping my sport classic into old age ( next year ) and letting it evolve as time and funds allow.maybe pick up a 996/8/9 to keep it company eventually.
