999 999 To 1098

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by yellowducmaniac, Jun 28, 2014.

  1. Toying with the idea of changing my 999s mono for a 1098,can anyone tell me what to expect re. riding differences between the two?...my 999S has full Ohlins kit and I've been looking at base 1098's,apart from the hike in horsepower is it on a par comfort wise etc...advice welcomed please.

  2. buy the s.

    keep the 999s.

    :)

  3. Yeah...I wish I could afford both!...not desperate to swap mine ,just curious:D

  4. I've got a 999 and 1198s. Comfort wise the 999 has it. The 1198 puts more pressure on the wrists. Where you seem to sit in the 999, the 1198 is more sit on. I do enjoy the bhp of the 1198 and the toys on the S are great. If you already have a 999s then go for the 1098s to get the Ohlins kit.

  5. the 999 will only in my view raise in value and is just more special where the 1098 is falling in value.......mind you if you drive a Ferrari there comes a time when you fancy a Porsche so do what you feel like as you wont be disappointed.

  6. I Agree,i also think the 749/999 series looks are growing on a lot of people who initially weren't sure...I was always sure ,that's why I bought mine.
I also think that the 999 will be the one that will be sought after in years to come,Terreblanche knew it was radically different to what had gone before, not necessarily a bad thing IMO....Just been to have a look at a 1098 at a local dealers this afternoon,i approached it from the front and thought it was something Japanese!...until I saw the name on the tank.

I think i'll be sticking with my T9 for a while yet.

  7. I think you wrong, the 1098 will shine as the best looking Duacati one day. I love my pair.

  9. did it look japanese because it has lights at the front , or a wheel or maybe plastic

  10. The 1098 will be stratospheric in comparison. Way more power. Way more torque

  11. still miss mine , would happily get another

  12. To be perfectly honest I thought it was a jap because of the headlights, they're not dissimilar to a blade or kwak zxr et al...it was the first one I have actually seen up close in the metal, and walking round it I wasn't overly impressed by the flimsy look of some of the plastics either.
I think Ducati over-reacted to the early press/public slating of the T9 series, and went over the top to try and get back to something which they thought would be more visibly 'ducati',but somewhere in the process they lost their way a bit by trying too hard, and ended up with something that does look quite mainstream.
One of the reasons I went for the 999 was that it looked totally fresh and different from anything else on the market at the time, and it still does IMO,as for power and torque,138bhp is way more than I could possibly use to the full on the road,or track for that matter!...to ride any big capacity modern sports Ducati to its full potential would put us in the same league as a Rossi or a Marquez, wishful thinking....

Seriously though, whatever floats your boat....mines still the T9.

  13. Simple answer is to put a 1098 engine in your 999.

  14. A slight exhageration me thinks

  15. Having ridden a T9S and 1000rr blade back to back, the blade was so much faster, like jumping off a 748 onto a 996 and some, and that doesn't have anywhere near the torque of a 1098.

  16. The torque pulling out of slow corners is enough on my 1198 for my mate on his 200bhp S1000RR to disappear into my mirrors rapidly. However without a slipper clutch the engine breaking can be a bit of a slow in. With one you get in faster and can roll in on throttle carry the speed and monster out on that fat torque. Its fucking addictive.

  17. can't honestly see a 1198 trouncing a s1000rr , found my s1000rr to comfortably live with anything was certainly quicker than my 1098

  18. I have a 1098/999 exhaust that has been adapted to use a 1098 engine on a 999, along with a wiring loom that I no longer need.

  19. Off a corner i reckon a 1198 would easily sort out the beemer, its when it gets upright and the power comes in, and as it spins so fast it doesn't take long, you'd get crucified
