I have a hyper 796 with leo vince sbk twin cans on the back, it has a leo vince de-cat pipe and leo vince sbk cans with no baffles. I can't find the baffles and I am tempted to just put it in for its MOT as it is. So the quesiton is: Has anyone with a straight through system and no baffles put it in for a MOT and passed? Thanks in advance
I chopped my standard exhaust 2" shorter which basically removed the baffle and made it straight through. Also got leo vince de cat its loud :-D and it passed no problem. The only thing with mine is that it looks standard.
Depends on where you get it mot'd, I've had bikes with akra's with no baffles pass, same with termis but always taken it to a bike shop to get it done.
Thanks for the response chaps. Ok, fair enough, I was weighing up where to get it done and the only bike place near me is MD Racing, any experience with MOT's with them?
Maybe I'll give it a go then as it is. My only other options are buy a set of baffles for £90. Or, troll ebay and buy a set of standard cans for around £60. I don't want to do either of these those
Agree with last 2 comments, always have my Ducati's with Termi's pass through the MOT. As long as they do not have "not for road use" or " race use only" then you should be ok. But, there is another problem, albeit, it's not been mentioned yet. The law now states, for cars, that if the OEM fitted a cat to the vehicle when new, then it has to be present at the MOT. Not sure if bike MOT's will go the same way???
straight throughs on 1340 hd and same on vl1500 chop always pass mot though always get a mention in advised section. mt01 when its done will also have straight throughs n i expect that to pass as well. as others say if its stamped not for road use then they have no choice but to fail them but otherwise should be ok if its a decent station, dealer mot'er then probably fail,so they can sell you parts etc.
Some mot stations are happy if you take the standard cans along in a cardboard box and as long as they are present when they do the mot they have no problem
Thanks for the comments chaps. This has stopped me pulling the trigger on £90 db killers/ £60 second hand standard cans. I will let you know what happens when I bring it for the MOT.
This is true, and laws in the good old U.S. of A state that it is an offence for a garage to remove a catalyser from the vehicle unless it is to replace it and that the owner may not by-pass or render inoperable, etc. Naturally when we read of emission control for new vehicles we expect it to be introduced for older vehicles but this anxiety is unfounded. The three way catalyser operates within a very narrow mixture band and requires a lean burn (reduction of HC + CO) and a rich burn period (reduction of NOx). This cannot be achieved with any accuracy by carburetor engines, only injection systems can offer the sophisticated analysis and management needed to prevent damage to the catalytic element, and modern ones at that.
Worst case scenario is that it fails on the exhaust and you then have to buy the standard cans and get it retested during the free 7-day period, so it's only an extra test and you could save yourself a chunk of money. Just don't go bowling up to the MOT station revving the nuts off it
my mot place me to take standard cans along with me....then they say at the time of mot they were fitted...if they spot checked..
