  1. Derek you are absolutely right my friend are you the very same Derek who came over with Milo on the Belgium trip?o_O

  2. Aye, that's me Tony.

  3. Great to hear from you Derek, hope you and Milo are doing well up there in 'Bonny' you know where!:D

  4. It's a bike, so gets wet. You ride on a motorway at 70 mph so the rain is shooting in at speed to all the tight spaces. For a major electrical component to suffer water ingress on a vehicle that is exposed to to the rain seems like a poor design of said box. If that indeed is the issue.
My Gixer suffered with 'no warning' cut outs in monsoon condititons on motorays. Not much fun with an artic behind you. Fault was the block connector inside left fairing panel in line with my knee. Water got in past the silicon boot and turned everything green.

  5. the common one i have seen, fiat ullysie, Peugeot 806. citron. water leeks from rear screen wash pipe on to the reversing sensor control module, light switch on and off, wipers heaters you name it it will switch on and off by them self.. dry it out. all hunky.
i like can systems, in many ways they are easier to diagnose.

  6. Set fire to it

  7. these Multis seem so fragile are all the problems ironed out on newer models ? got test ride saturday on 1200 s touring big money for a fragile bike ?

  8. The one really positive piece of advice most Mutli owners would offer with regards to that particularly pertinent question is, make sure you extend the warranty............

  9. I'm out of warranty now (over 4 years old). Just leaving for the Chunnel. Tomorrow the forecast is for pretty bad rain between Le Touquet and Caen, so I guess I will be putting these old electrics to the test?

I do have breakdown cover though ;)

  10. I've ridden mine at speed in monsoon conditions abroad with no issues.

    Yet...

  11. Has this been resolved yet and if so what was the outcome ?

  12. £5 for a can of WD40 and spray it *everywhere* ! lol ;)

  13. Breakdown on my k8. Corrosion in fusebox behind left side fairing. Design fault IMO and only 5k miles showing on a mint condition bike. Cleaned contacts, new fuses, corrosion inhibiter. No more issues.

  14. Mine was a K4 750. Have had Gixers from the original one (750H) to the K4. I put big miles on them all and the K4 was the only one I had that single issue with. As for my Mutley issues................where do I begin :Banghead:

  15. I would agree with the ride it home but get breakdown insurance first.

The chance of a loom and ecu failure at the same time ulemas the loom has damaged the ecu, they would not be able to diagnose this with any diagnostic computer so unless they have done pin outs on the loom and inspected closely they are throwing parts at it to ensure a first time fix.

Get it home somehow as I am sure that your local dealer with more time would fix it for a fraction of the price, if it helps I am in Southampton with a bike trailer you can borrow

  16. rain forecast tomorrow should i still risk my test ride :Banghead:

  17. Since the 'can bus' is a serial communication system the fault like the one described could be any where on any device.
I'd look for water ingress if it occurred shortly after getting wet (inc dew). More likely a wire trapped, cut or shorted. Possibly a device or controller error. The system is robust, however when the physical layer has issues it is back to basic electronic fault finding.
I wouldn't fit a new loom or ecu at this stage.
Note I worked on CAN back in the late 80s making the very first transceivers.

  18. I had a similar thing happen on our 2002 Mercedes. I think it's around this time they started fitting CAN BUS systems to vehicles. We were driving two years ago through France and it rained non stop, just as we got near Switzerland the car went nuts, all sorts of warning messages, various electrical bits stopped working etc. Managed to get to a petrol station where I disconnected the battery and when reconnected all was fine. I think if the rain is heavy enough combined with driving at motorway speeds water can get in anywhere.

  19. WD40.....
Please only use this to loosen rusty bolts.
50% thinners 50% light machine oil.
Use contact cleaner then contact lubricant on switches and connectors.

Please note the electrical connectors used in the mts1200 are the best in the industry (automotive).
If you want or need better talk to Lockheed or Boeing.
