When I was first making enquiries, he told me that a magazine had done a review on the bike a long time ago and they had a copy they would give me with the bike. I tried to find a copy but couldn't so I asked him to send me the magazine, three or four times. Eventually he did. The magazine details the history very differently to what he told me. I have tried to speak to him but he was busy and would ring me straight back. That was on Tuesday.
It could be that he didn't read the mag and it was the previous owner who told him the story, if it's nothing dodgy then why worry? Just speak with him and ask why the two stories are so different

So let me get this straight: you want to do business involving several thousands of pounds with someone who is 200 miles away and who you are fairly sure is deceitful and whom you can't trust. The thing you are trying to buy currently exists only on paper and is a complicated thing involving many different parts, any of which could go wrong. Should they do so you will be dealing with someone a long way away who is perfectly happy to lie to you. Your question is, is it a good idea to enter into business with this person? I think you know the answer.
It doesn't look that way. The mag printed some names within the article who I have contacted and they have verified the history as printed. I have also contacted the exceptionally helpful ducati Italy customer services who have told me the correct information about the frame and engine number.
gliddofglood, when you sum it up so well, I guess I am being a fool. How's that saying go? A fool and his money....
What is the bike, maybe we can help with our limited knowledge of all things Ducati. ps don't always trust Ducati, they are somewhat conservative with the truth too sometimes!
You have to confront him with what you know to be true both as a bargaining tool and to hear see his reaction/explanation. You will then know if you still want the bike.
No, I can't until I have spoken with him to see what his reasons are. Besides, I know some of you get on with this guy so that wouldn't be right.
Thanks, and I've been bursting to tell you all since I put the deposit on over 7 weeks ago but thought I had better wait until it was in my garage. Can't say just yet, but you might see it for sale again soon.
