This may be a noddy question but if I was to fit a set of Termis to my 1198 (be it full system or cans) would I need to lose the exhaust valve, and would this generate an error signal on the dash? I'm not looking for more power or even more noise (I'm happy enough with the levels I've got!) but have been told it'll make the engine more tractable low down? Thanks all!
Full System, yes you loose the valve. Slip-Ons no, as they join just after the valve. You will free up power by fitting either, but you need to have the correct fuel map to do this. I ran slip on's with a standard fuel map and it wasn't great, I have just remapped the bike and it's made a massive difference. Previously I couldn't use anything below 4500rpm really, it was lumpy and un-predictable, now I can sit on a constant throttle as little as 2500rpm and drive cleanly all the way up from there. There are cheaper options than Termi, although I know a few people are selling sets. Don't worry about getting the official 'DP Performance ecu' just get it to someone who knows what they are doing to map it properly for about £400
And a remap will maintain the TC and all the rest? Am I right in saying it just tweaks the fuel mixture in effect?
Yes, basically (and others will be able to elaborate) the reason that the bike hunts etc is because the O2 sensors are trying to 'lean the mixture' on constant throttle to pass emissions. I believe there are 4 fuel tables and basically a remap will disable the O2 sensor and exhaust valve and provide the optimum fuelling for each cylinder. This is all assuming u ditch the catalytic converter of course as of u add more fuel it will burn the cats out! Where about are u based? CJS in bristol seems to be the place to go! But I am sure there are lots in the north.
Ps the cats are in the silencers so if u get some 'open' termi's they won't have them. I bought these as they were £550 and spent £300 on remap and £40 on a DP air filter. There is someone on here selling a set of arrows for £350
Thanks for your speedy replies folks. I may go down this route - I said I'd not modify my bike (I've owned it since new, a 12 plate) but this sounds like a fair plan. I did notice it seems a lot happier of late, and less lumpy in the last few thousand miles.
Ive got the full system with slash cut term's. If i could do it again, i'd buy the full Akro system instead. Better quality all round.
If the Termi kit you buy either new or used comes with the correct ECU then it'll already carry the correct map to negate the errors caused by removal of the valve or lambdas.
I love Akra's but imo they look big and bulky on the 1098 etc, BUT they are 1000x's better qual and the whole system clocks in at half that of the SS Termi! Its a no brainer tbh... However I do love the look and sound of the slash cut Termis.
