Having just finished my 748SPS, and taken it out for its first shakedown (Here goes with my SPS | Page 3 | Ducati Forum I decided to go for a comparison blast on my Multi after I'd put the SPS back. Unlocked everything, and flipped down the red switch to start up - nothing! I tried it again, several times, more firmly, longer, may have hit it a bit... It couldn't be the battery, surely - it's been on the Optimate all week. Lifted off the manual override cover, and it fired up with the code OK, and turned off with the red switch. I tried again with the normal procedure, and noticed that, occasionally, I'd get "Red switch not released" message. Oo-er. So clever dicky here suspects something wrong with the switch - I'd heard tales of issues following jet-washing, and we got rather wet last ride out, so I dismantled the starter button to look for issues (nothing much to see except the spring). Put it back, waggled it a bit, swore - all the usual remedies. Starting it up with the manual code entry worked, but it stopped for no reason. Started again with the code and went indoors to collect helmet etc. and it stopped again. Coming out of the house, I picked up the key fob in passing ... which was a good few yards away. You're right - it fired up perfectly normally - obviously it was just in/out of range. Serve me right for leaping to conclusions. Clever dick! Dunno why it stopped after starting with the code, tho'
Stuck the old Guzzi on charge after a winter renovating it, but it wouldn't even turn over, left it a few days to get a full charge but still nothing. I was resigned to stripping the starter, and possibly the engine, when something clicked in my head - I'd plugged the charger into a socket that I also had a strip light plugged into, as I left the garage each time - and flicked the switch to turn off the strip light - I was switching off the optimate too...
