Suggestion by AirConTechnical............a good indicator of how 'robust' the Multistrada 1200 really is - high mileage bikes: (I've added a couple from the ducati.ms site: How many miles ya got? - Ducati.ms - The Ultimate Ducati Forum) WHO - WHERE - MILES - WHEN (where = home location) 1) Roberto Valle - Italy - 60,706 (99,307km) - 07/2014 2) Graham Smith - 54,000 (86,900km) UK - 07/2014 (later traded-in: main bearing failure!) 3) kma_jg - 55,2300 - Aus - (88,888km) - (05/2015) 4) Longwayhome - UK - 44,100 - 09/2014 5) sonicboom36 - Australia - 43,000 (70,000km) - 01/2014 6) Rick Hart - Uk - 40,000 - 11/2015 7) Derek - UK - 40,000 - 11/2016 (2010 bike) 8) DrGreg - USA - 38,000 - 9) dadridesagain - USA - 38,000 - 08/2014 10) cmyers_uk - uk - 35210 02/2016 11) oz_johnno - Aus - 32,300 - 05/2014 12) Claudio Persano - IT - 31,100 - 08/2014 13) Rick Hart - USA - 31,000 - 08/2014 14) lokyc - UK - 30950 - 04/2015 15) AirConTechnical - UK - 30,000 - 05/2014 16) Twin4me - uk - 30,000 11/2015 17) Firebladeboy - UK - 30,000 - 11/2015 18) Biot - UK - 28,670 - 09/2014 - 1198nk - USA - 28,100 - 08/2014 (in 2yrs 2months) - rogercor - USA - 16000 - 08/2014 (in first year;-) - PHILLIPO - UK - 15,000 - 08/2014 (in first year ;-) ....and the multi-Multi awards: Pete1950 - uk - 37,000 miles on two Multis, 2011 S (30,500) and 2015 S DVT (6,500). So far. 11/2015 steveb123 - uk- 35,000 miles but that is on three different Multistradas (2010: 16,000 / 2013: 14,000 / 2015: 5,000 to date 11/2015), so definitely cheating Veetwin - UK - 32,000 (on a 2010 1200S) Veetwin - UK - 29,000 (on a 2013 1200S) - 06/2015 Veetwin - UK - 7,000 on 2015 DVT - so far!!!! 11/2015
May be we could add what failed (if anything) and what happened with replacement? Faint glow on dash neutral indicator (23k miles) still there and ignored. Ohlins fork foot cracked (24k miles), ducati and ohlins denied responsibility, but 12 months later ducati UK paid up (£400). Rear compression servo failed on Ohlins suspension (24k), Ohlins repaired no charge. 28500miles gear selector incorrectly shows neutral when in first. Will ask Mike to fix at next service. Edit: Mike was worse than useless. Told me it was inside the gear box or the speedo or my nonstandard led rear light. Diagnosed and then fixed it myself £90 & 20mins work to replace the gear position sensor. 30k front ducati exhaust header pipe popped the lambda lug but out (metal fatigue), replaced with 2nd hand pipe £40 fleaby. Love the bike and would replace with another new one, but only once ducati return to Ohlins. And once I worn this one out...at least 100k to go. They also need to sort out the screen and turbulence IMHO.
So AndyW no warranty or other non-service items....result! This should address some of the bad press the MTS1200 gets. Some it deserves (like when an engine fails), but we need to keep this in proportion; to both Ducati or OEM response and the numbers. I've a regular drinking buddy who is a top Volvo and Honda mechanic (nearly retired). If you listened to him you'd think he was describing his normal day as working on a 1980's Skoda...not the worlds safest and most reliable cars (by popular reputation). Engine / gearbox failures on cars with less than 10K etc...etc...etc.
So if I read this right, of all the MTS bikes out there, only 4 or 5 have made it over 30,000 miles. Ducati should be ashamed they charge so much.
Yeah but ACT, I think there may be more sales with just one brand of car producer, than all the motorcycle sales put together, then if you bring that down to just one brand of motorcycle, I would think the breakdown percentages are much much higher ?
......and with probably no more than 10% of MTS1200 owners active on the forum and what %age of those few have seen the mileage threads? - I guess the high mile guys (nothing to do with mile high ) are too busy riding! lol
I've not spoke to a single MTS1200 rider who wasn't aware, if not active on the forum. And I'd like to turn the Count's comment on it's head... All you Mutley riders with less than 12K a year on the clocks need to get out more.......... EDIT... said the man digging the garden on the orders of SWMBO
Not 12,000 but 8,500 in the first year and about 5,000 of that high speed touring on the continent. Just ridden 1,508 miles on a Jerez MotoGP/Gibralter tour, two up and fully loaded. No problems except for the annoying hazard flashers coming on after the tenth left indicator operation, which it's done since new. I'm loving it!! Kevin
I do about 1,000 a month on average. Purely pleasure miles. No commuting. Taken it around France and Britain. Clutch master cylinder and rear accelerometer cable routing have been the only issues. Both sorted efficiently under warranty. And Ducatiassist sorted me out when I was stranded with no clutch. I have mated with Aston Martins and Bentleys who've had more trouble. The moaners should get off Ducati's back and get out riding these superb bikes. Tempus fugit!
22k miles 2011 abs, 1) heads replaced under warranty when out of warranty know issues with quality of casting 2) paint fallen off engine casing 3) slight flickering of dash at times 4) steering lock doesn't work 5) and the funniest , pannier fell off on m4 some where sometime (probably user error ) but its great love it , another 2.5k going on next week.
23,700 on 11 plate Sport T. New clocks at 22,500. Before that, new rad (crack), engine cases (peeling paint), upgraded rear brake (Ducati mod (still pants). Will keep it till 30k then Beachy Head here I come Just been away on it for 10 days in the sun, 2 up. Was fine with no issues at all. Av mpg 52. All 3 cases on and Doris on the back.
Error um. I think he's got it set in USA mode! I get 38.5mpg most days on the mutley and around 17-19 in my work van.
just crossed 26k doing around 1k a month at the moment. still love it , the upgrade to brake pads and disks increased the fun. still love it
