Hi Everyone, In the market for a lightly used Multi 1200 S Tourer, (not the standard model) any Forum member thinking of selling soon? I'm in London. Thanks.
Can I ask? why do want the S model specifically? the only difference between that and the base model with abs is the (sometimes troublesome) electronic suspension. With what you save on the cost of an S you could buy a set of luggage and still have some dosh left over for some bling.
Hi, I fancied the electronic suspension! I had it on my BMW K1300S & loved it, very practical to be able to just press the button when I pick my wife up and the suspension automatically adjusts. I would imagine that the Ohlins ride is better than the standard Sachs too but this is just assumption on my part, feel free to let me know otherwise.
Hi Gaja Im selling mine mid august Touring S ,30k , stubby termi, carbon beak/belt covers,Ducati smoked touring screen, full R&G crash bungs, panniers new tyres and freshly serviced(big one belts/shims etc). Let me know if you are interested and I can email some pics. It was my company bike and only ridden by me since new but will show 2 owners Dave
Can I ask? why do not want the S model specifically? the main diffrence between that and the base model with abs is the (very awesome) electronic suspension. If you save on the cost of an S you might regret not buying it later. Joke aside. I have tried both. I first bought an S (Which unfortunately died way too young in the austrian alps). When I got a new granted from the insurance company, I was thinking about saving a bit, to cover costs from the accident, but the ABS model did not have the same feel. When driving straight I did not notice much diffrence, but when pressed a bit, the diffrence started to show. If you often ride with a pillion, you will also love how easy it is to adjust. As with all new electronics you add, it all becomes more complicated, and there are more ways for the bike to break down. The question is, are you willing to risk it?
Another consideration is resale, the extra I pay now, should in theory mean that the S is worth more than the standard bike when I come to sell it. I have a feeling that I would regret it & am scouring the net for a lightly used S, hopefully with panniers. The electronics are tested to destruction & Ohlins is very good quality gear, I think the chances of failure are minimal.
Hi again. I can see arguments for and against both and I have no doubt that the Ohlins stuff is superior to the Sachs / Marazocchi stuff on the Base model. Rear suspension changes are pretty quick with the adjuster which hardens or softens the preload with just a few clicks here and there. Take a butchers here http://ducatiforum.co.uk/f6/des-error-2581/ . I dont know what the defective parts are being replaced with, but if its a direct swap for a new actuator, then surely the problem might come back. Improved part, unlikely. As far as resale, its still early days for this system on Dukes and in my mind its a system still developing. If the electronic wizardry continues to fail will that effect resale value if the reputation sticks? Just a thought
I guess if I go for the S, I will try to go for one which still has at least 6 months warranty left! (or one with an extended policy, I believe you can purchase one for the third year, this would give peace of mind!) Any recalls, issues etc. should be ironed out within this time frame. I take your point about DES issues with the S & I guess it is still developing as you wrote, luckily software updates go a long way to improving/future proofing the product! I also think that forums tend to create a bit of synergy with problems, they seem amplified somewhat, do you know what I mean?
That's what I did. Buy one from a Ducati dealer under 18 months old and get the extended warranty as part of the deal.
Been looking, would prefer a private purchase, cheaper than the dealers... scouring Autotrader, eBay, MCN, not sure where else to look...
its 300 quid for the additional year. go for the S - touring (has heated grips etc...) you wont regret it, plus the previous owner may have put some of the carbon bits on making it the same as the sport... try and get one with the full ducati exhaust - its a 2K upgrade - so if you can find a second hand with the exhaust at the same price as a normal one -go for it. try and get one just after service (either the big one 15K - which costs 800 quid or a smaller one - which is still 300 quid) to save monies. ask about how fresh tyres are - also a 2-300 quid expense if you buy one that will need tyres buy something as standard as possible - and if not, make sure the owner has kept all the original bits so that you can 'reverse' anything not to ur taste - things like tail tidy, low/std seat ducati top box costs 3-400 quid so good if you find one with one as good extra. a good 15K miler will cost you around 9K private, 10K - 10K, 5K - I guess 11K or so... if buying from a dealer try and get some servicing included - as you will need it and its the most expensive part of owning it apart from petrol if you covered by warranty. bugs
Thanks for your advice, very sound! Yes, I am really looking for the S Tourer, don't really want to spend more than £11.500 so choices are limited.
