The manual for my Kriega US30 tail pack tells me to attach the straps to hard points underneath the rear seat. I couldn't find anywhere to attach them, so I temporarily attached them to the grab rails and tidied the spare strap lengths with sticky tape. Does anyone know how to attach the straps underneath the seat?
That's cool then. I reckon it would look cleaner if we could find a way of mounting it under the seat because the loops could be tucked under the seat when not in use. There must be a way...
There is for the front straps at least. It's a pain in the arse but doable. Remove the small side fairings under the riders seat and you can get to the rear subframe and loop the straps in place. I ended up cutting a small notch into the black plastic undetneath so the straps wouldn't bend the coloured fairings. You can't see it at all and cut them nice and tidy you would never know they are not factory done. Rears I have a tail rack so they went on those still not ideal but tidy enough
Just put the straps under my seat then pushed pillion seat back down on my Gixer. When bag off you can just put straps into under seat space! Can't u do the same with the Mutley. Sold my K stuff when Mutley arrived.
If i've understood correctly then the rear seat locking mechanism would be taking the load of the tail pack moving around? I presume that's fine but am no expert. I'd prefer to attach them to a hard point ideally.
Very happy with my various KRIEGA rack packs and R25 backpack on the MTS.... The mounting straps (hook loops) stay on the bike most time and do not flap around at all...
Looks really good. Two questions: 1) How did you attach the front two straps under the seat? 2) What is the loop that stops the rear straps from flapping about and does it stretch so that you can leave it there permanently or do you untie it when you put the tail pack on?
1) the front straps are tied to the hand rail, the excess strap material goes under the seat. 2) cable tie (black) and remove and replace as needed ~ easy as....
@JimboP Kriega aside, lose the daft rear mud guard thing out back and get a tail tidy (and LED indicators). You seem to have upgradeitis so I figure the essentials need to be on the list as well as all the other bits.
Right - they've gone onto my to do list. I take it the rear mud guard is designed for off road work? I don't intend to do any in the immediate future (intentionally anyway), so good idea to remove it. Is it hard to put back on should I decide to take my lovely Mutley off road?
It's three bolts to remove the rear guard, a five minute job and one of the first things I did. I'd suggest putting the bolts back in afterwards to avoid the exposed threads being left to the elements. It's just a big piece of plastic to comply with regulations in other parts of the world and I'd rather have the odd bit of spray than cover up the back tyre. With a tail tidy and this gone, the whole back end of the bike is opened up visually and looks way better.
Oddly I didn't have a Mutley tail tidy kitting around at home but hopefully you're a little happier now?
My Kreiga stuff stayed on fine. Trips to Assen etc for 2 years and no problems with seat popping off!!! Had a 20 litre then to a 10 litre either either side stuck on and wrapped the K bum bag round that. Was rock solid and would do the same with the Mutley if I still had the set.
My K20 and bum bag clipped under and round the k20 on my old but not forgotten Gixer K4. Pictured at a petrol stop on the way back from Assen a few years ago. Was very impressed with the K kit and the main compartments are 100% waterproof. My loops just went under the seat; not round the grab rail, as they slid around too much on the white rail and wore the paint.
Never having owned a 1200, and seeing the piss flap on the far back and a racebike hugger on the front of the rear wheel, does anyone know if a conventional hugger for full coverage was ever made for the 1200, I know they were for the 1000 and 1100
