1200 Iphone Mounted

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by JimboP, Jul 21, 2014.

  1. This evening I mounted my iPhone on the handlebars using a Wahoo Fitness iPhone case and an NC-17 mounting bracket. Seems to do the trick very nicely; it has a quick release mechanism for the iPhone (the mount is permanently attached), it's compatible with the Wahoo battery pack and the position seems spot on. Very happy with it. I've just installed a Sena 20S in my helmet and paired it with my iPhone, so should be able to hear the directions as well as see them, which will allow me to lock the phone to save the battery until I figure out how to power the phone from the bike.

Next step is to get some of that conductive liquid for the finger tips of my gloves, which should allow me to use the touchscreen on the iPhone. Clearly it's not going to be as good as the genuine Ducati nav setup but hopefully it'll be a reasonable substitute.

  2. Looks really interesting. I'd like to do something similar with my iphone. Could you elaborate? I've not heard of Wahoo, where did you get it and if you don't mind sharing, how much did it cost! And any chance you could show a pic of the mount fitted to the bars without the phone attached?

I only need satnav occasionally so something like this might be perfect for my Monster 1200S. I certainly don't have the urge to invest in expensive dedicated Ducati satnav gear.

  3. Ultimate addons is what you need, bracket and power adapter

Be interested in what conductive substance you get and if it works

  4. Not sure if I'm allowed to post to a shop or not but I'll try anyway and hopefully the moderators won't ban me!

The case: Wahoo Fitness Bike Case for iPhone - Black: Amazon.co.uk: Sports & Outdoors

The battery pack (optional): Wahoo Extended Battery for Bike Case: Amazon.co.uk: Sports & Outdoors

The mount: NC-17 Alu Bike Mount for Wahoo Fitness iPhone Case offers at the cycling shop Rose Bikes UK

The last link shows a picture of the mount quite nicely but happy to snap some pics tomorrow if you need more.

  5. The Ultimate Addons stuff looks good too - hadn't heard of that before, thank you. I had the Wahoo case already from my bicycle, so for me it was a no brainer but for someone starting from scratch they'd definitely want to weigh the Wahoo against the U.A. solution.

I'm going to try this liquid and I'll report back how well/if it works:

  6. Thanks for the info and links Jimbo. It's appreciated. The photo of the mount on the Rose site is perfect.

  7. I use one of these

    RAM Mount UK

works well and has cable entry at the rear. I keep it handy in case I forget my sat nav, just splashed out on a new 590LM so hope to stop using my phone, got fed up with my old TomTom.

Smart phone is great for nav etc IMO, just powering them is the pita.

  8. Its easy to power with a multi, it has a power source already fitted, you just need to connected it. I use the ultimate one as the ends are interchangable, so I have a iphone socket and keep a small usb satnav one on the bike. Great for phone charging while out even if I am not using as satnav

Prob I have is my satnav is a car one and doenst have Bt and I dont have a BT headset to connect to my phone, so its read road, try and stop everyone else tryg to kill me plus navigate by sight off a screen while making progress

Interesting use of my 10 dollar attention span...

  9. I have a naff BT headset, came with an old sat nav, just ordered a 3.99 angled micro usb that will fit in the phone case, hate not having the lead for the case, got loads of power sockets on my TDM just need a lead that fits the case, I never use a BT headset tbh but may give the cheapo a go, like you say Bradders pays to keep your eye on the road.

  10. Search for conductive thread on eBay. About 99p for a metre. Sew a patch of it into the thumb and/or forefinger of your left glove. Job done. Before this, I tried AnyGloves liquid. Should be called AnyGlovesExceptLeather... [EDIT: Just seen the post about Leather Formula. This is a new development. Hope it works]

Obviously the thread shouldn't be sewn into waterproof gloves. Checking various suppliers such as www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk and searching for touch screen should find you something suitable.

  11. I used this stuff.... Anyglove (for leather)
AnyGlove(TM) For Leather Formula - Turns Almost Any Leather, Insulated or Waterproof Gloves into Touchscreen Gloves, iPhone Gloves, Texting Gloves, iPad Gloves.: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

Works a treat and when dry is invisible. My tip is to do finger and thumb on both hands, rather than just one, there is plenty in the bottle, enough for maybe four pairs of gloves.

    Deaks :)

  12. Cheers great links

  13. I applied AnyGlove to my gloves yesterday - easy to do and works like a dream!

  14. Sooooo....I over torqued an allen bolt in my NC-17 iPhone mount (sorry - i don't know what 2nm compared to 2.5nm feels like and I don't have a torque tool thingy). It's dead. Good opportunity to get involved in the Ultimate Addons kit that people have mentioned. Does anyone know which mounting solution this is from them? i like that it's up high so you don't have to look as far down as a handlebar mount.

  15. No but if you find out, post it, as I want one. Is it a navihalter?? My heath Robinson solution is being tested today..

I have only ever seen the cases and power thru UA

  16. Pretty sure it's UA. I've emailed them to find out.

  17. Thanks you ;) just as I said...not going to spend £50 on a mount tho, would rather use the bar mount amd buy a BT headset (which op has already) for satnav directions

  18. And it failed.
