Hi, what are the options for a QAT on a 916? i don't necessarily want to change the initial rate, just reduce the amount of turn to get it fully open. are there any good aftermarket ones that can do this, or maybe a std throttle tube from different bike that can have the desired effect? cheers SteveO
Apart from Electraeon mentioned above there is a quick action throttle made by Domino, the original suppliers of the Ducati throttle assemblies. My son has one on his race bike and it has all the same fittings as the standard throttle only it lacks the fast idle button and has a different body and throttle tube . He purchased it secondhand and it has no serial number on it or other identification and I am guessing it may no longer be made, it is fairly similar to a stock Ducati item so I guess it is not too drastic in terms of it's action. He uses a combination of both the quick action throttle and the electraeon cam so it is quite a lot more on and off in terms of control, but it does work well for him. The easiest route is changing the cam as it's a simple bolt on changeover and you will still retain decent control for street riding.
why would you need it any less than the 67 degrees a 916 is as standard? thats one movement... if it was a 1098 1198 999 749 or so on then maybe as they are in the region of 94 degrees i.e. a third more movement people are getting confused with the R1 R6 replacement for the dual cable of those........the 916 is single cable.......
use the other hand for that to make use of the muscles built up by operating the clutch! I couldn't do it in one movement and found it uncomfortable to do the last little bit....I'm also used to having the QAT on my racebike.
As said the 916 throttle is fairly quick action anyway but the cam is the best route to speed it up as the fast idle button is too useful a feature to lose IMHO. As an aside, I fitted a 916 throttle to my M900 purely for the fast idle feature as the FCR carbs don't have any choke/fast idle setting, and so are a pain when the engine's cold. On this particular setup, due to the size of the cams on the carbs, the throttle action is too fast with only about half the travel of that on a 916. It's not the speed so much as the fact that it's very heavy meaning it gets tiresome after a while - I could do with something to slow down/lengthen the throttle action...
Thanks for the responses..... Electraeon cam on it's way to me... (along with the gear indicator & quickshifter that i found whilst browsing!) rearsets next on the list i think...
