I've just got a 2012 S Touring and on my continued mission to double the bike's weight with mods I'd like to get a set of the LED spotlights that you get with the GT. Are these available anywhere?
You can purchase them at the Ducati Store, part number should be 52010261B, plus 83017903AA and 83017893AA. Call the Ducati store to be sure EDIT: these are the pages of the replacements parts catalogue regarding the lights. You can understand it better with these
You can buy a complete kit; Additional Headlamps Kit 96680041A. Not cheap, but includes everything you need and plugs into the Sat Nav socket under the l/h side panel (and the loom provides a socket to replicate the socket it plugs into). The switch fits nicely in the gap between the switchgear and mirror mount on the l/H bar, however the green warning lamp is a bit bright (easily fixed with a black fibre tip pen). The lights have to be switched on every time you switch on the ignition. Fitting isn't too bad. You are supposed to remove the tank however I ran the loom around the headstock to avoid having the remove the tank, not a neat but it works.
Ducati Glasgow just pinged me saying that the whole kit costs £295 inc VAT. Is there a cunning way to have the LED lights come on with the ignition like the normal lights?
Peter (Coman) bought some cheap LED running lights on Ebay and just wired them into the accessory socket under the seat. They then come on when the ignition is switched on. They looked fine to me when he was behind me. He might still be in France after the EMM(?), but ping him a message if you want to now how he did it.
Just sold my lights recently, but to be honest you can't beat the Peformance ones yes they at be nearly 300 quid but the brackets fit right, the switch is right, the loom doesn't need any playing with, and can't understand why some people but a 15 grand bike then quibble about a few quid doing it right, ps all my Multi stuff went, but still have the GT like crash bars made by sw motech if your interested
Agreed - no point scrimping on the accessories on such a spendy bike. I've just ordered the Performance LED light kit and it'll be here from Italy next week I should imagine. Thanks for the offer on the crash bars but the Ducati ones are being delivered tomorrow from Ducati Glasgow (who have been top notch btw - recommended).
Have to say, the lights on mine are probably the best of any of my bikes. Even the new KTM which uses LEDs are not anywhere near the PP. If I had the front wheel up, the ISS would spot me faffing about in Surrey. I regularly blind oncoming cars and had to adjust the dip slightly. I can't see you need the additional lights but hey, your bike and all that.
I want to be a moving sun to reduce to the small probability possible the chance of someone not seeing me and pulling out
You do have one of these installed of course? you have everything else so I figured this must have been in place by now. I have the PP so our chap is less rotund and the flag has a carbon fibre pole.
NB....some radiator guards (R&G for sure) will not fit bikes fitted with the DP / Grantuismo spot/fog light brackets. I've just bought the brackets to remount my Vision-X Solstice Solo LED lights......not impressed by the quality of the finish, they look more suited to a Massy Fergy than a Ducati! ....off to the powder coater again it is then ;-) Part numbers: Right: 83017893AA & Left: 83017903AA ....cost approx £14 a piece. Fitting to the upper radiator mounting brackets welded to the frame....
It is a weird coating they apply, agree it's more like a token gesture than a proper coating, mine didn't rust it anything when I had them on the bike
Mine just arrived yesterday. Very glad because I was riding in the dark for the first time on Tue night and I found the main beams to be rubbish. Admittedly I got a lot of flashes from people when I was on low beam so I'm guessing the suspension was affected by all the luggage I was hauling. Not sure how good they are when suspension is setup right but I can't wait to get the LEDs on regardless.
When I got mine in 2010 I spent the first winter riding round with a screwdriver in my pocket and kept adjusting the lights until I was happy. I found I had to lower them a LOT before they were in the right place, especially as I am almost always two-up. Once done though the lights have been as good as any I've ridden with. From your comments I'm guessing yours are still too high and I would suggest it's probably worth getting your headlamps right before relying on the add-odds. Blue H11 bulbs in the headlamps will stop the yellow look when they are next to your new LED's! I rather like the 2014 sturdy handguards.........
Agreed. I'll adj the suspension properly and then the lights. The full beams look bright but hard to say when they are just helping people on the moon read. H11 bulbs - when will this spending spree ever end??!
