I've seen a 998 for sale and is stated as 95bhp that seems a bit low to me, is that the right bhp for that bike? Cheers, Jamesy
Not so nice, just checked - 134 - Full S Spec with race termi and Power Commander - remembered the right numbers in the wrong order, or was that 431
I seem to remember the 998 being 123 and the 998S being about 135. Those figures would have been at the wheel I think as they changed to measuring at the crank in about 2002.
I believe they changed between the first and second 999 models, read on here I think - that would make it 2004/5
It's 123 for a stock 998 as mentioned, mine was dynoed at that when I had a Powercommander fitted and top speed was read at 165 mph. The French versions are restricted to about 100 plus bhp so it could be a restricted model.
it's funny, my 2011 Speed Triple knocks out 132bhp which is probably a few up on my 998s with 54mm Termis & chip. But my 998 just feels like she has an awful lot more! OK, my Speedy has all the power I need on the road as a mere mortal and he behaves himself and has better manners than my Italian mistress - but I get a certain buzz from my 998 - she just feels more brutal and bad tempered! She shakes and rattles like a bloody tractor as only a 90 degree V twin can - so different moods for different mounts :Brb:....
I ride out with a guy who has a 2010 speed triple that looks like a faux Monster. My 998 nails him absolutely everywhere so last week we swopped bikes. What a wierd experience, felt like I was sitting in an armchair and couldn't hear the engine. After a few kms I got the hang of it though and started hooning around, great fun but was glad to get back behind the bubble! French bikes are restricted until 1st Jan 2016 when the law changes. Don't buy one, it may be a simple ecu flash or it may be cams and exhaust, you'll never know until you've bought it and pulled it apart. Those of us with half a brain buy Swiss, Italian or German, as each of those is only round the corner and they have the all important eu type approval for re-registration!
