Whilst cleaning my T9S this evening I got an urge to try and paint the raised 'brembo' lettering on my front calipers,I reckon if done carefully in red they will look pretty cool, what type of paint should be used ?...will everyday modelling enamel do or should I use the dedicated caliper paint which is widely available?...any pointers please.
I think that your enamel would be fine however if its gloss it would need a good primer/undercoat to stick to.
I did this to a pair of Nissin calipers and I used Hammerite smooth and this was over 5 years ago and it has always withstood the heat despite the calipers being on a 250 track bike.
I did that to my 749, aswell as the little symbol on the rear one. I used a paint pen from an art shop, then a clear lacquer over the top. Looked great, and the chicks loved it. Not sure what that oh dear is about.
Thanks for all the feedback guys, when I get them done i'll post a pic...the paint pen seems the safest option, doesnt call for such a steady hand... All this talk of defacing our machines must be anathema to a purist.....
some people exist in a grey drab world " oh dear, thats the incorrect cadmium plated finish on that M6x25mm bolt. Plus its should be an M6x16mm...."
Andy has a firm grasp on all things wanky! Not sure where he stands on anal and not sure I want to know.
All in the eye of the beholder etc surely? Some will like, others not. Hardly unusual so would think many are in the looks good camp.
My 1198 has red brembo lettering as standard on its calipers. I really dont see what the fuss is about. He is not talking about painting the whole damn caliper red or anything. Most Brembo aftermarket calipers have the text in red. Now if he was painting his tax disc red, then I can understand the free lifestyle fascism.
Theres no intention to get the white tyre pen out....I'm merely gonna try and make a nice job of the BREMBO LETTERING ONLY,not the whole f@ckin caliper!!...now that WOULD give people offence! The red is relegated to where it should be.....small and Unobtrusive
I used a normal touch up paint from halfrauds. Just clean up first with thinners and job's a good un.
Here's the result, done using a 95p red paint pen from wh smith's,de-greased the calipers really well before hand, the whole job took me 10 mins....I think they look pretty good View attachment triumph 010.jpg
