My first long motorcycle ride (365 miles) ended after 140 miles with a flat tyre and several hours of AA recovery trucks who took me to the B&B I am staying in near Truro. After motorcycle heaven in the form of the A272 near Winchester my rear went flat. I now have a Multistrada that can't move and am hoping someone might be able to advise of a place near Truro who can either come out with a van and fit new tyres at their shop or fit them on site. My bike has Pirelli Scorpion Trails on it from the factory, so i'd like a set of those unless people can advise on better ones?
I'd go for pr3 or pr4's personally. Thanks very much. Fortunately I'm here until tomorrow lunchtime, so hopefully the next day guys will be able to help. Really happy that there are some mobile options because it was 4 hours before the AA got to me yesterday and I don't have time for a repeat of that today due to work. What's the difference between the Scorpion Trails and PR3/PR4s - are the Michelins more suited to road work? I have (at this point anyway) little interest in off-roading, so a more road oriented tyre sounds better.
dont know the pr3/4 but the scorpions i had on my aprillia would easily give me the confidence to get the bike leaning in the wet.
I've come from sportsbikes or super nakeds so this was the first sport tourer type bike I've owned, mine came with Pr3's on but when I test rode a multi from a dealer to me the stock rubber felt a bit vague, that could've been suspension set up or pressures though. That said the pr3's are bloody good, ridiculous grip in the wet and just as good dry, I don't really hang about and even riding the multi supermoto style (aggressive out of every bend) it just picks up and goes. Tbh any modern day tyre is good, but the pr3/4 last really well and I'm happy with them. I wouldn't run them on a sportsbike though, dunlop sportsmarts are my road going favourite or Racetec for the track bike

Good to hear. I'm going to go PR4 GTs for pretence, then PR4 std, then PR3 and then Scorpion Trails because no idea what stick will be available at zero notice.
No and therefore no. However, the first van the AA sent did carry a repair kit but he felt the tyre was too warn, partly through usage and partly through having been run for a mile or two flat (I didn't know it had gone flat, which I still can barely believe - testament to the Multi's stability).
scorpion trails should be banned on the multi pr4s are fantastic , my profiles on the scorps went at 2500 miles and were rubbish on the nurburgring sliding all over the place pr4s really are good and in 3 weeks will be blasting them all over france and spain
PR4 GTs (intent on touring with fair bit of kit) on order - hoping they will arrive at the shop tomorrow.
PR4 GT's are aimed at heavy touring bikes such as BM 1200RT's or K1600's Standard PR4's are the recommended fitment for the Multi.
Bummer I was only there in Cornwall this morning and had quite a number of puncture repair kits with us, could of been there quicker than the err AA. That said if tyre screwed then no amount of repairs will help. Good luck with the repalcement and let us know how they fair. Just totalled 4550 miles (France and Thruxton Track day) on my Scorps...looking for newbies now...
Ah - bugger. Ordered now and stranded without them. Think it will be problematic? I can delay going home by a day without much issue.
Any concerns from anyone on me getting PR4 GTs rather than the standards on my Multi 1200? I can delay going home and work in Truro tomorrow if there are safely/performance concerns.
Also consider Pirelli angel go which is the same tyre as Metzeler z8. As good as the Michelin ,PR3 not so good if you push hard,will overheat and go off, pr2 better than 3 for grip,pr4 might be out of stock.
